OSLO, Norway (AP) -- Renathe Opedal was hopelessly stuck in traffic during rush hour when an overeager attendant slapped her with a $73 parking ticket.

Opedal, 32, couldn't believe it. So she took the case to court -- and got the ticket anulled, plus an award of $585 for costs.

"I'm really glad I won," she said by telephone on Friday. "But it took much too much time and energy. I'm glad it's over."

On March 26, traffic had backed up in the southern town of Kristiansand during rush hour and Opedal's car got stuck in the middle.

According to the ruling by the Kristiansand District Court, the city parking attendant misunderstood the situation and thought Opedal had caused the traffic jam by parking illegally.

The court ruled that the traffic attendant was wrong, canceled the ticket, and ordered the traffic department to pay Opedal $585 in costs.

"Parking companies do some pretty strange things sometimes," said Opedal. "They should have ... come to their senses. Instead, we had to go to court."

Kristiansand is on Norway's southern tip, about 175 miles (280 km) south of Oslo.

Damn it redcoke - I wish you wouldn't advertise this.

You do realise that if the Government sees this they will start fining everyone in a traffic jam here.

....another thing that annoys me: why don't they call the penalty what it is - it's a parking FINE, not a parking ticket. A ticket is something you buy in advance to allow access to a service. Same with a speeding 'ticket'.

This is a successful ploy by the government to disguise the fact that they are raising money from these schemes, which we all fell for.

Don't let them do the same with the 'safety' camera.

Sitting on my desk is a Penalty Charge Notice courtesy of Southwark Council issued over the Bank Holiday on a trip to the Tate Crap.
We felt pretty amused at the 'Bargain 0ffer' - " Reduction of 50% if paid within 14 days."
SWMBO opened up and saw £50.00 says "Oh, it'll only cost £25.00" - wrong ! Read further down and it says the standard fine is £100.00

Yes I did pay it - teach me not to read Mon to Sun as Mon to Sat!

You were lucky your car was still there when you got back.

Don't try it in Camden, the w*nkers are bastards for getting your car on a lorry 2 mins after the ticket has been issued. Cue another 100 squid to get your car out of the pound, plus all the hassle of actually getting there with 10 bags of shopping from Sainsbury's.

It's like the traffic warden in Trigger Happy TV! The first time I saw that I thought "this will happen sooner rather than later".

Not to mention the parking attendants in Bromsgrove who have just been sacked for not issuing enough tickets.
