Looking for a rally driving course/experience
Discussion
Not sure where to post this - I've put it in 'off road' too but that looks like a quiet spot so I thought the general forum might be better.
I'm looking for a rally driving course/experience for a birthday present for someone new to it but who's always wanted to do it. I've been looking around for recommendations but I've only been able to find the odd comment here and there.
No ambitions to get into it seriously, so not a 'proper' course as such, but on the other hand I'm definitely not after a £99 'experience' with little driving time. I was thinking of at least a day, two days max. Decent birthday present!
Based in Hampshire but would travel as far as Derbyshire / mid-Wales. The trip could tie in with other things.
All suggestions/feedback gratefully received!
Cheers,
Stephen

I don't know if silverstone is in reach of you, but managed to get a good deal for my fathers day. Peugeot 206's at the time. Half a day in duration. Maybe worth a look?
We found that some of those red letter type days worked out a bit more expensive. Your better of going straight to source so to speak.

Try these guys at Subaru Rally Experience located off M3/M25 also located at Castle Combe some days

Have used them a couple of times and it's good value/good fun (and not too far from you).
In car clip from last time out

They use rear wheel drive Impreza's set up to handle like a Mk2 Escort and they also have 4wd Impreza' and fwd Peugeot'.
Half day course gets you plenty of driving time and is £160, a full day course gives loads more driving is £250

Run by the Higgins brothers, both former British championship winners, on stages used by top teams for testing... Brilliant

Phil Price rally school in mid Wales.
Absolutely fantastic day out and worth every penny.
heard the same as i live in the areaAbsolutely fantastic day out and worth every penny.
Phil has a good name and i know the bigger work's manufacturers test on his ground

Would definitely recommend it!
Thanks for all the suggestions - checking them out now. I see a theme emerging though re Phil Price! The Subaru place doesn't seem to book as far ahead as June yet.
I like the idea of starting in the MK2s. A couple of places I've found seem to be all about the cars - Subaru vs Mitsubishi and so on - strikes me that it might be missing the point.
Cheers,
S

You'll enjoy it whatever the car, last place I went had 4 old Novas and an Impreza. The Subaru was impressive but the instructor did make everyone hold back a bit in it. In comparison you were encouraged to completely ruin the novas, great fun.Cheers,
