Came home from a lovely evening watching The Hobbit and then a nice meal to find my neighbour trying to get his Range Rover to hump my Elise!
When I collared him he said it couldn't have been him as his reverse beepers would have stopped him...
Not when they are level with my windscreen and your tow bar has mangled my grille and bumper.
Nice big gashes and paint flacked off everywhere.

He has accepted responsibility so no need for a rant and rave but the space he was trying to get in, I wouldn't have put a Mini in!

Now I have the ball ache of quotes and car off the road.
Smart one.

Don't forget the ball ache of him denying responsibility when it gets to insurance time.

There are very few decent people out there.

What a idiot.

It is dreadful to think that person honestly thought that parking assists not beeping was a worthy excuse.

I hope you have pictures of the RR and your Elise together.

I'll have a guess, wife puts stuff in the boot while neighbour sits with the engine running having reversed into a parking space, parking sensor stays on solid beep as it picks up the tailgate, neighbour switches parking sensors off because its annoying, some time later goes to reverse into/out of his house, parking sensors don't come on because he's switched them off earlier, neighbour doesn't bother to use the eyes and neck that evolution provided him with, OP ends up with his car getting humped.

Surprised you don't hear of it happening more often, I've seen my Mum nearly do it in her Rangey before, also watched the girlfriends sister reverse their parents Rangey back doors deep into a hedge, now we all know to listen for the beep or make sure to switch them back on. And I know not to laugh hysterically at my girlfriends sister as she upsets far more easily than her general demeanour would suggest hehe

He had moved it forward before there was a chance to get pics.
We'll see, he seems a decent sort although I don't know him that well.

I tend to believe the best in people so just hope I don't get my fingers burnt.
The bumper had a few scrapes along the bottom so will prob get them done and go halves.

He'll put in a claim for whiplash and say you crashed into him while his car was stationary. Seriously though, you do know that your premium will now increase? I think someone here claimed that from the insurance company though as part of the overall claim.

On the bright side you know where he lives. I doubt that he will screw you over considering that you are neighbours, if he does you can make his life a misery.

The reason I haven't bought an Elise frown Having seen some of the parking that goes on around here, I wouldn't sleep at night leaving my P&J on the street frown Will the fact that it's a clam make it more expensive than otherwise or is the damage not that bad?

IN which case, find a decent local bodyshop and get a quote without going via the insurance...

It's actually easy to repair fibreglass, so most of the time they can be repaired rather than replacing.

Unfortunately lots of people push for new clams, which is usually unnecessary. It's something the insurance will often push for too.

Depends on exactly how it's been damaged. You can just fill fibreglass if it's still reasonably intact, and at least don't have to worry about rust prevention. However, if any of the elements of the clam have been snapped completely (there are some quite narrow ones down around the grills and indicators), it's a different matter.

I had a very minor shunt (at walking pace) in the Elise a few years ago and the repair bill came to the best part of eight grand just for the repairs to the front of my car. No-one would even consider trying to repair the clam because all the fiddly bits were snapped.

It's the reason I bought an Elise with iffy paint and loads of stone chips. I don't worry about it all the time. Plus it was cheaper. Win.

scratchchin Hmmm biggrin

I live in London, have no requirement to drive anywhere, love cycling so would need to transport my bikes, would have to park it on the street and yet I still want a 111R tongue out
