Hi all,

Returning back to the MB fold after a spending the last two years in Porsche, BMW (good), Maserati (not so good) and more latterly, Jaguars (loved them). My last Mercedes was a C63 AMG PPP which I did a fair few modifications on....hopefully I'm returning with a bang given I've just purchased a lightly used, one year old SLS.

I've had a very brief drive of it and should take delivery of it next weekend but one thing I was disappointed with was with the B&O sound system (now waiting for the wisecracks about how the engine noise is the only sound I need to listen to wink). On anything with more than 1/4 bass and medium volume, it sounded like the subwoofer was farting/popping slightly and as such ruined the sound. The dealer have agreed to replace the sub but I'm wondering, is there anything else it could be or, has anyone else had experience of this system and is it actually any good? (It bloody week should be given it cost the first owner £5k!!)

Other than that....Oh My God. What a car. Coming out of a new Jaguar XKR-S, the performance is very similar but the 'experience' is anything but. The sound, the unique chassis balance from sitting so close to the back wheels, just the whole feel of the thing is like nothing else and, subject to the audio quality not being typical and instead being fixed, I can't wait to take delivery next week!

how you doing palmball congrats on your new car what colour did you go for? the sound of the b&o sound system in the sls was really good like crystal clear so it might just be speakers. what a good way to come back to mercedes the car is a drama every day a real sense of occasion. did you not look at the c63 black series?

Normally the B&O system sounds excellent, as above I would check all the speakers. As you have mentioned already, keep the volume down as the exhaust sounds even better!

Well hello sailor!

That Jag didn't last long even by your standards!!!

I would have expected the B&O to be good as the HK stereo is average.

Tell us all about it, and get some pics up!

Simon (still slumming it in my C63)

The demo car I used until my car was ready had B & O, it sounded very good, far better than the standard system in my car and far better than Burmester option on Porsche cars. Good luck with the car, hope you're not too tall or you'll be banging your head whenever the car goes sideways.

Hello stranger....thanks!

It's dark grey (not sure what...is it Imola?) with the cream/black two-tone interior.

I did look at Blackie but as I had two C63's previously (you go through this many a month don't you wink), whilst the Black would be vastly different, it felt very 'familiar' sat inside one. So, for the same money as a new Black (well, less actually), the SLS was a no-brainer really as that car is so 'different' in every respect to anything else I've had. The view out of it is particularly unique!

Ah phew....I'm a bit concerned as I really like my car audio and the Bowers and Wilkins in my XKR-S was awesome. The B&O's bass was so distorted in comparison so, especially if you think it's better than Porsches Burmester system, I'm hoping the replacement sub will fix everything! If it doesn't....well, I'm not really sure what to do.

Hey old chap smile

Well, I have had an XKR (of some sort) for well over a year which is excellent by my standards....a reflection of how much I liked the car. The SLS has a lot to live up to which I'm sure it will!

Not much to tell at the minute....I sold the XKR-S yesterday, to weWANTanycar.com of all places!! They offered over 5% more than any Jag dealer offered and I ended up only getting a couple of k's less than what similar examples are retailing for at Jag dealers (before negotiations!). I don't even think I'd have matched WWAC's offer by selling privately, never mind all the hassle! And on that note, contrary to the reputation these companies have, the process was very pleasant and easy - I described the car exactly as it was (inc. a lightly kerbed wheel) and they didn't even attempt to knock the price down one bit from what I'd agreed with them on the phone.

I should collect the SLS next Saturday (with a hopefully fixed sub!)....expect my thoughts on it shortly after wink

I've replied over on MBClub.co.uk - but you're welcome to come and have a listen to mine for comparison.
