Lionheart 2013
Discussion
Anyone from here entering?
Me, the FIL and a friend put our entries in last night.
Me and FIL are doing the 100km as we've only really been cycling proper since the summer, mate is doing the 100m.
Looking forward to it and also the training that needs to be done over the next few months to bring me up to being comfortable with 60ish miles, longest ride so far is 47 miles.

Good choice, it's one of the better organised ones and the route is great but some of the back roads they use have a lot of debris (the farmers had cut all the hedgrerows the week before the event) so there was quite a few punctures. The climb up to St Alfreds Tower is quite tough but if you make it all the way round the descent into Longleat Park is epic fun
My advice is get their early so you don't have to queue for the car park

I'm in Bristol so not too far to go but still going to be an early start, not sure what to do about breakfast as I'll be wanting a big bowl of porridge but won't want to eat as early as the alarm will get me up!
Looks bloody excellent. I'm definitely in for the 100km, cheers for posting or I wouldn't have spotted! This will be my first ever Sportive, but I've done a few rides of this distance casually and would be comfortable with a medium pace I think. I've just flagged this to my mate and fellow PHer Eddh who I think will also be in.
i'm in, anyone needing a lift from bristol on the day? i'm riding the 100 mile route so if youre doing the 100 kms, ride slowly or relax for an hour or two post ride!!
for those who are localish and need another ride after the Lionheart, the White Horse challenge entries open in the next day or two, 90 odd miles around Oxfordshire and Wiltshire, should be a great ride http://www.whitehorsechallenge.com/index.html

awww man that looks good, shame it clashes with the exmoor beauty and coasting in cornwall...for those who are localish and need another ride after the Lionheart, the White Horse challenge entries open in the next day or two, 90 odd miles around Oxfordshire and Wiltshire, should be a great ride http://www.whitehorsechallenge.com/index.html

Was just about to comment saying we were doing this! This means you need to keep the 'teg until at least March now

I am also going from Bristol btw.
Excellent.
Shall we use this thread as a kind of build up thread, post our progress etc.
I was back on the bike on Friday after having all of Decemeber off (tut tut), did a paltry 15 miles as I got cramp in both calves after 10 miles, forgot to stretch them out before I set off, silly really as I tend to suffer if I don't!
Then went out yesterday and did 25 miles with the FIL, taking in a few hills.
Got tomorrow off to MoT the car first thing so I'll hopefully head out after that, then got a 30-35 mile ride planned for Sunday.
Before winter set in I was doing 45 miles every Sunday so I'm just easing myself back in at the mo and then will start upping the miles over the next weeks.

Here are the time standards for anyone wanting a bit of a challenge. These are chip times so you will have to factor in any food breaks and hope there are no serious mechanicals etc, I'm aiming for a bronze but if the weather is good and I'm feeling ok I might push on a bit!

I'm going to aim for 4h30 for the 100km - that's 14.5mph average which should be achievable if we just take splash-and-dash food stops and don't get bogged down on the hills. It doesn't look a terribly hilly route (3k ft climbing and nothing over 5%) so shouldn't be too tough even for a tubber like me... famous last words.Row 1 - Male 18-39
