I've got £400ish and need some new tyres for Scooby. She now has a waggly arse.
Now I'm a bit of a tyre noob and don't know what I'm looking for so was going to ask you kindly for some suggestions please, I don't want any eco death trap tyres though!

The size is 215/45/17

Thanks

This site has quite a lot of reviews and stuff on it: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Grid/

Obviously be wary of the ratings of the ones with only a very small number of reviews.

I've always found GoodYear Eagle F1's to be a great compromise between grip and value. Other's have sworn by the Falken FK 452's.

yes Eagle F1s are a good bet, and seem to be in budget. http://www.camskill.co.uk/m54b0s15p105227/Goodyear...

Shouldn't they be 225? Check the handbook or the plaque/sticker with tyre pressures on.
The alloys I've got at the moment are not standard. On the website where I bought them from it says they sell both 215 and 225 confused

I'm pretty sure 225 should be fitted.

I might get flamed but I've heard a lot of good things about Maxxis, I used them when I raced MX but they've only just started making car tyres.

In 225 you can get 4 for your car for £260!! Got to be worth a go, if not Kuhmo Ecsta, Toyo T1-R or FK452/462 whatever model they're on now.

I have toyos on my Mini. Do like but they wear very fast.
Not sure I'd risk trying the maxxis no matter how cheap they are...

I've heard very good things about the Eagle F1s on Scoobys and Evos. They're going to be expensive compared to some others but will most likely be the best.

Yup, another Eagle F1 on an Evo here. Epic tyre, especially in the wet.

I did a trackday at silverstone in the wet, and I was passing basically everything. (Including an R35 GTR and a V10 R8, both of which are 4WD. They both had more power than me on the straights but I was all over them under brakes and in the corners so they eventually let me past. Certainly a lot to do with experience/driver of course(!) but also these tyres are amazing in that weather on that car!)

I have Toyos on my M3 and had them on my FQ300, they were very good.
I don't think the Maxxis are a risk, look at Falkens, I had the 451s on my M3 10 years ago when everyone was saying the same about them but now Falkens are recommended by many PHers.

I use maxxis maz1 victra (I think that's right) on my z4, currently no complaints after 4k miles of road and track use. Good price and seem to be good performance so far.

My WRX had 225's, although it was a couple of years younger.
Nope, 215/45 R17 on this style of wheel (fitted to cars without Brembo brakes):

225/45 R17 on this style:
