I am in the unfortunate position of having to leave my motor (chimaera) on the road and after walking past my car recently found that some kind person had driven into the side of it whilst it was parked (and not left a note). This has left a smear of red paint down the passenger side rear wing and also left a hefty deep scratch. Suffice it to say I was
and promptly walked around each red car in sight and checked their bumpers for Halcyon Atlantis paint, but to no avail.
Until this morning, when I notice a beat up bright red builders van parked exactly over the road and remembered that it had been there during the week for the last couple of weeks. There is also a suspicious scratch and paint on the passenger side front bumper.
My problem is that the two builders using the van look like they wouldn't be out of place in a prison riot and I don't think they'd give a hoot if I confronted them.
Furthermore, I am 6 months off getting full no claims bonus and being able to protect my NCB and therefore don't really want to involve my insurance co.
Is there anything I can do? Do I get the police involved and can I speak to my insurance company about it? If it was them then there's no way I want them to get away with it and I can't afford a re-spray at the moment
Many thanks
Jon

I had a very similar situation many years ago when somebody dented in the wing of my car when it was parked outside my house.
I caught the culprit (a neighbour) polishing my paint off, and changing his indicator what he had broke. My neighbours had seen him do it.
He adopted the "I din do nuffink" defence (as per another thread) and my insurance company were simply not interested. Neither were the cops - they believed him.
I had to fix it myself.

Our RO had the same problem recently, came outside to see his Lexus dinged and matched the ding to a neighbours car (whom was known to be a bad driver) as her course getting out of her drive and the matching ding made it obvious.
Approached her about it and she admitted to, she then went in to her house, presumably to speak to her husband and came back with the line "prove it was me..."
So our RO had a sports exhaust fitted to his Griff
The sports exhuast might not be related, but I'm sure it'll p!$$ them off tomorrow morning!

long story for mine... but resulted in me calling police after chasing the twat - you could even see the fresh paint/scratches... he p****d off in the dark and went into a house - Police came round, he denied it & as there were no witnesses the bib weren't interested.... it gets worse, cop asks me for my documents back at my house, but I keep them at my office - so he gives me a producer!!!! I was really pissed off about it & ended up having a heated exchange (not something I was brought up to do with the law...) I mean it was a brand new 30k car, as if it's not insured!! and worse still... when I phoned him a week later to see if they'd pursued it (after my insistence) all he went on about was 'have you produced yet' - waste of time... one day things will even out my way! - so the moral is....(assuming you're 100% sure it's him) let the b@stards tyres down when you next see him - actually, puncture 2 of them, so he can't use the spare to get to a garage and he can't really claim for that on insurance!

Revenge is sweet and best served in the middle of the night!
Brake fluid over the bonnet is something I would never recommend.
Apparently it eats into the metal and a re-spray will always blister…
Either that or find out where they live and spell ‘CHAV’ in the lawn using petrol! Again, I wouldn’t recommend this, as it would be breaking the law.

The old bill dont give a crap about vandalism, damage done to your P&J....
They just give you a case number which you pass onto your insurance company...
You'll be dreaming if you think they'll send a plod over to help investigate further - they need all the plods they can group up to hide behind trees waiting for some poor undeserving victim of a VERY ILLEGAL CRIME of going 6 miles over the speed limit!
Feckin disgusting!

Let a pint of milk get very past its best and then pour over the windscreen (and into any vents available).
Just don't get seen doing it.

Had the Cerb pelted with eggs by a load of chavs in the neighbourhood. Being fibreglass, it scratched speckled circles where every single one hit. Peasants.
Saw them doing it, shouted at them, chased them back to their house, and confronted them & their parents. Got threatened by the lot of them. Reported them to the police who ignored me repeatedly and told me to claim on my insurance. (Sorry to all the decent
out there - I know there are plenty, but how are some of them allowed on the force!?!? Nearly as bad as the one laughing as he watched a girl lob a brick at the Cerb. Seriously.)
Anyway, spotted the chav scum a couple of weeks later playing on a park/common thing down the road. Pulled off onto the grass in the Cerb and wheelspan over every last one of their bikes. Made a lovely sound. Never parked it in its old spot again, as I knew what was coming if I did!
Back on topic... Go and talk to the builders, say that a neighbour saw them bump into your car (deflecting the cause for them to smack you one), and say that you'd like to sort it out "off the record", without their insurance getting hit (psychology - pretend to be on their side). Do you know if they work for a larger firm of builders, or are they indies? If the former, they might not want to get reported for it. If the latter, they might not want their premiums to go up. It may not get you the full amount/anything, but a hundred pounds or so would be better than nothing...

Not good if you go down the insurance route. As there are no independent witnesses, its your word against theirs and as Nick found out if you can't unequivocally proove it you have no legs to stand on - BE WARNED It will count as a claim even though it didn't go in your favour. To add insult, you mentioned two guys in the van, they have an independent witness. Game over.
If you take revenge, which is quite frankly pointless, you better hope neither of them logs onto PHs.
