As an alternative take it to a main dealer. Their core business is not MOTs on older cars and therefore are less likely to invent stuff. Also, the technicians in the main dealer don't want to be replacing some brake pipe on an old stter of a car.

found the opposite tbh, Land Rover main dealer last year, advised upper & lower rear suspension bushes replaced, duly replaced. after inspecting the old ones they were found to be perfectly ok, hence MOT only station this year.

So was that a Land Rover or the Lancia?

I sometime take "other" cars to the big local German main dealer for MOT on the basis the last thing they want is to be asked to fix a car they don't understand! Never failed yet....
