I wondered if anyone could confirm if the following is possible...

I'd like to use a smart TV (not yet bought) in our bedroom but would also like to pipe the sound into the en suite (so can listen to news, radio etc). The Smart TV could also pick up music off our NAS so could be used as a basic music system (as long as speaker quality is up to it).

Question is, how to do this? If I feed off the headphone jack I presume the main speakers in the tv will mute? Is anyone aware of an overide for this in any sets available?

Obviously I could go with an amp and multiple speakers but that's an expense and wiring/packaging headache I was hoping to avoid.

Any help appreciated.

Some TV's will have an audio out, check the specs before you buy. In the past I've used the scart for audio out but have noticed most modern TV's do not have a scart. Then just a small amp behind the TV or a powered speaker.

What is your budget? I'd go and visit your local Bang and Olufsen dealer - they should tell you something about masterlink.

Good luck!

You wouldn't even need masterlink. The new V1 and BeoVision 11 allow multiple speaker groups directly from the TV.

Plug in speakers, configure them to play in whatever combinations you want (in this case program your remote with bed, En Suite, and both) and away you go.

£1999 + speakers (and probably an amp for passives in the bathroom) for a 32" V1.

I've no doubt it looks nice but 2k for a 32" LCD seems a bit much to me.

Thanks, you've prompted me to check the toshiba in our lounge and this has an audio out - anyone know if the output for these will be independent of the main speakers i.e. will plugging in leave the main speakers on and can I control the volume on the audio out seperately?

Budget is less than the cost of adding another Sonos receiver in the room (and much less than the 2k for the B&W unfortunately...) - with this option I only need the speakers (which I'd need with the Sonos anyway) plus can listen to the tv in another room with possibly only a cheap amp needed.

You can see the TV from the bath if you angle the mirror right.

The audio out is usually at a fixed line level and independent of the TV volume, it's easy to check with a set of PC speakers or similar. Be aware though some labelled audio outs are often audio ins for PC/component audio etc.

Thanks, good to know, I'll do some testing.
