I got some HID lights for the cerb for christmas i have a late car so have the projector type lenses.

I was thinking of controlling the lights using a relay which will use the lights ecu box to control the relay, which will switch the HID's, have others who have HID's ran the lights straight from the battery or via another source ie the big fuse, although i have removed this, or back to the main fuse board?

Although I didn't fit them (technical numpty and time poor...) I have HiD fitted to the later projector type lights.
Originally they were wired in "as normal", but I experienced issues that they sometimes would turn on, or one came on not the other.
This was fixed by running a fused power feed directly from the battery.

Fitted mine myself. Very easy. But took them off due to dazzling other road users. I have projector lights.
I just used existing wiring etc, no probs except needing to cut the black and yellow (?) wire to stop flickering issues.
Hated the fact that main beam would be horrid and yellow.
Make sure you have the 'right' heat / spec hid's.

I ran mine as you described utilized the control box but to switch a relay from a fused power source direct from the battery, reason being i had problems with inrush start up of the HID's.

Back to standard bulbs well Osram Night breaker that are as good as Hid's and no hassle at MOT time or from the Police as well as what Gaz said .

Empathy, one of the few benefits of 'maturity'. ;-)

I have HID's fitted to mine on both main and dipped beam.

Never been stopped by the police (for headlights hehe)
Never had anyone say anything on any of the runs I've done or from friends I'm behind (sounds a bit wrong)
Never had any problems MOT time (been through 5)
Never had any problems with wiring (they are just using the standard TVR wires)
Never had one fail or not start up.

I guess it depends on the quality of the kit and how they are set up.

Mine are the projector headlights.

One of the best mods that can be done to the car if done right with the right kit, ebay has a lot cheep kits kicking about.

Scotty thanks for the heads up , just had a look on you tube showing these & they seem pretty good, anything has to be better than the cake candle's that's fitted to mine.

Empathy: I sort of ran out of that today, this guy in front, rear fogs on for miles on a b road, wish I had some HID's on mine as I felt like giving him full beam until his paint bubbled!
