So i was wandering around another forum and came across an interesting thread regarding artificial sound being played into the cabin of a m135i to enhance the engine sound

Exhibit A - Before disconnecting 'exhaust note amp':

Exhibit B - After you disconnect said 'exhaust note amp':

This features in the f10 M5 also, what are everyone's thoughts on this?

Sadly the future, for now I can listen to this every time I put my foot down smile (albeit not DSG)

Ignore the brutal bit in the title, it's a reasonably quick car but I wouldn't call the acceleration BRUTAL

Sad yes, but if it requires disconnecting the amp to know for sure then it's not doing a bad job.

I'm sure an aftermarket 'zorst would sort it out.

If the 135i uses a resonator and not the speakers then I don't see the problem with this system - either you fit a loud exhaust (or induction kit) and the noise gets to your ears through the glazing, or with this system it gets piped directly into the cabin.

What I find worse are the programmed in misfires that some cars have on the up or down change. Kind of spoils the fun if you know you'll get a crackle or pop every single gear change.

Yep interesting vid s m. Once again, added traction seems to count for less than higher lateral grip on track...

Does the STi have big 245s all round and hence slightly fatter tyres on the front than the BM though? I suspect the BM puts more power onto the Tarmac perhaps as it has more atw?

This is the point..the 135i uses speakers, in comparison to current offerrings from say Porsche who direct noise into the cabin from the actual engine.

Can it be retrofitted? Would love to fit it to my girlfriends 1.4 206 or something similarly boring,
