Well since the height is hi then you should be fine, it'll be downhill to the nearest station.

if it starts, and there is a petrol station within a couple of miles without stopping at too many lights or junctions
my mate used to run his car out of petrol quite regularly, one time it cut out over a mile from the petrol station, he gave it a few minutes, got it started again and got going, it cut out again a little before the petrol station and we coasted up to it, then drove it in by cranking the starter motor, it was the worlds first 1991 mk2 fiesta hybrid

I hate that, when you think there is nothing left then it has 3 litres left. I did once manage 42 litres into a 40 litre tank though, that made me re-think the fuel light gamble on that one!

it does hurt putting £107 in the tank for it to last 430 ish miles or about 7 days of work and back but the tank before i only averaged about 17mpg so its getting better smile

A lot of modern cars are very pessimistic. We run our Mondeo way past the "0 miles left". Itr's more problematic on cars with mechanical fuel pumps and carbs as they are far more temperamental.

You know you're up against it in the 05-on Mustangs as the gauge, normally green, turns red when the estimate is about 5 or 10 miles and you know you're not going to get that far.

The most I've done with the fuel light on is 42 miles, the handbook says there should be 7-8 litres of fuel left when the light comes on so I reckon I could stretch it to 55ish but I won't be trying that anytime soon.
