Anyone been out looking for work in the IT market recently?

If so, how is it?

Still bleak or picking up?

I have finally reached the end of my tether and want to jack it in you see...

Have been taking a quiet interest in my area (South Wales/West) for both contract and permie jobs (I'm currently permie) and things seem a little brighter than the begining of the year but it's hardly boom time.

I'm please to see the number of .net jobs going up - and it appears the number of j2ee vacancies are up, although the rates would need to improve (especially in the permie sector) for me to move ATM.

Cheers

Paul

Best month ever (12 month trading) so far and we are only 8 days in!

Every month is like that for me.

Business is defo in the UP in IT at present, over the last 5-6 mths mostly.

August was a pap month in terms of revenue collection, but as for sales, have 2 of the largest deals ever on the cards at present, along with some nice sized upgrades.

I dont want to jinx it, but with Google IPO'ing, then rising substantially (ok, so its slipped back a tad now!) it all seems slightly... de ja vu

The number of jobs on the IT related job sites seem to be picking up slowly...

So can I summise that its looking better for the vendors but not for individuals?

Perhaps I should start up on my own...

Getting the first client is the issue there though.

Any pearls of wisdom anyone?

Matt, only just found this post, strange you started it on the day I was made redundant. (Company managed to misplace two major clients).

Compared to last time I was looking (Early 2003) it is far more boyant, with agents actually calling me, or returning my calls, which is almost as good.

Hope your new venture goes well, and if you need a CRM consultant/Trechnical Project Manager in the Berkshire area, let me know!
