Anyone been before?
What should I expect?
Any questions for Di Resta, Stewart, McNish should I somehow bump into them?
For Di Resta I was thinking of asking; now that you've seen how the likes of Maldonardo (and even Hulkenberg) can be highly valued on a single performance, for 2013 do you think you're going to forget consistency and go for it a bit more?
I've bumped into JYS before years ago and I asked him if he ever regretted selling Stweart GP so soon. The answer basically was sometimes but essentially no. I've always wanted to know how he dealt with the loss of Cevert, given he was almost like a little brother to him, and if he thought about grooming someone else, but always thought that would be too insensitive.
McNish - do you think that F3 crash changed you, because it looked like it from my pov? (from someone very promising to someone... er, not.)

Unless you've got some sort of VIP access, don't expect those guys to be easily accessible. They get shuffled on and off the Autosport stage through a backdoor and you never see them again! Allan McNish has done signing sessions on one of the racewear stands in the past when I've been and he may well be doing Autosport's own autograph sessions. He's a top bloke, happy to chat away when signing.
Thursday and Friday are the best days to go if you can wangle your way in. I managed to grab Darren Turner to sign some stuff before, as it wasn't too busy and he wasn't being harassed by big crowds. I went on Friday in 08 and 09 thanks to the PH Show being on at the same time and access being available through there. Otherwise be prepared to trip over kids and adults with millions of freebie carrier bags, drooling over half naked bimbos draped over a pile of wheels.

It's worse now because you can't opt out of the live arena (no offence Woof!). I paid something like £17 for my ticket in 2002 without the arena and did it on a day trip on a very early train journey. Past couple of times I went, I managed to get a BOGOF code on tickets, which brought it to around the same price. I'm sure for a first-timer, the OP will enjoy the day. I just felt a bit disappointed in 09 when they changed the layout of the whole thing and it did look visibly smaller. It was very evident that the money was going out of motorsport by then.
I found some photos I took of the 1991 event. As I was only young they're all taken from waist height. I've always enjoyed the show simply because there isn't much racing to enjoy during the off-season. You always tend to learn a bit about the forthcoming season and get excited about planning events. I'll go if I have free tickets but otherwise don't intend to.
Haven't been for years - cost put me off tbh.
However thanks to the generosity of a fellow PH'r I have been lucky enough to get a free ticket so I'm off 'home' next Sunday for a few hours.
Intend to be there early, 8am, to get in as soon as the doors open so I can at least see some cars. Truth be told I only want to see the Richard Burns Rally Car Collection so anything else will be a bonus.

Say that to him and you'd probably hear some very rude Scottish words! Nice to know you don't think Le Mans wins count for much...

I was kind hoping Neal and Plato would be signing next to each other. That would be worth some similar fun.I don't enjoy nor rate LM series much (though I more like GT1, 2, 3 since the rule changes). LMs probably even more about the car than F1, and riddled with so-so F1 drivers who turn into these amazing "champions"... but in my world it's all about F1. Feeder series to F1 to the odd fun F1 retirement series etc. Just IMO.
So Autosport International isn't much of a Christmas present to look forward to then?

Like I said, for your first time it should be good. It's different for the rest of us who've gone several times and don't think it's worth it anymore.Le Mans is where the good F1 drivers who didn't have the money or the daddy to help them have a long career in F1 go in my opinion.

If you're going on the public day get there when the doors open - you can wander around and do the karts, 10 quid caterham ride, simulators p, before the crowds get there.
Dont bother taking s nice camera - amazing cars, but terrible lighting: everything comes out orange.
Im going again this year - but i don't drink in jan and kart season doesn't start till feb, so what else is there to do?

If you have both a nice camera and know what you are doing with it, there are ways around the terrible and inconsistent lighting. If it was consistent then you could just gel the flash and be done with it, but it is far from that straightforward. Anything up to person sized and you can just burn out the worst of the local light with flash, but for cars you are going to have to compromise somewhere or faf around on your computer in my experience. Also - an ultra wide angle lens is a good idea or you will spend your whole day waiting for a sight line without anyone obstructing it - even on the Thursday.I've been going for years now but am not sure whether I'll make it this time or not. I gave up on the public days a fair while back, but even the trade days are starting to crowd out the last few years and there is usually a lot of the same stuff there from one year to the next.
