Recommend me a MTB

Evenin chap's,
Basically I used to be an enthusiastic mountain biker in my mid teen's. I had a couple front suspension bikes a Specialised rock hopper & a Saracen Andes which I spent a bit on getting deore xt groupset, rock shock suspension Coda & hope goodies etc etc fitted.....then hit 17, got a car, got laid & lost interest. Now ive hit 30 & realised how unfit I am I would like to get back into it.
Local woods trails and a bit of beginner downhill stuff was my tonic back in the day & i'd think this is probably where i'd want to re-enter. Not really interested in road/hybrid etc.
I did attempt this about 5yr ago, however picked up a very low spec bike off a guy at work, had terrible cable disk brakes, was clumsy feeling and was just horrendous to ride and nothing remotely enjoyable.
What i'm unsure of is what to go for and budget I should be looking at? Things seem to have changed a fair bit. Ive started having a read online but not quite sure what I want.
Unsure if something front & rear suspension might be worth exploring?? Ive seen the Boardman Team FS and quite like the look.
Also through here been looking at Whyte range of bikes, never heard of them before but they look very nice.

I've had a couple of cube's, race & acid, a GT zasker and now on a saracen zen 2.
I like the cubes for single trails but wanted to try something else. So bought the zen 2. It is a lot more weighty but gives me the option of downhill black runs, which are a lot more fun . It was a compromise over a full susser being 140mm front fork.
The german brands are up their but for the money have a look at bike siscount.de, their own brand radon are up there, will be my next bike.

I was looking at the Radon's too, specifically the Black Sin 6.0, good spec for the money and looks great too. I ended up getting a Vitus hardtail from Chain Reaction, great price for the 2012 model and amazing spec.
Your situation is might like mine but I spent maybe a bit more than I needed to but am happy and 26'' wheels are plenty big enough, I dont get the 29 thing myself, I think the massive wheels look a bit silly, personal view :-).
Depends how much you want to spend I guess and if you want rigid, hard tail or FS, good luck
