I thought it lasted until i was 60/70 years old i've just dragged mine out the cupboard 2016.

I guess it doesn't occur to the DVLA to send out a letter well in advance to say "excuse us but you need to renew your licence" then? They'll just sit back and enjoy a cut of the fines no doubt.

I recently received a letter to say mine expires in a few months and that I need to renew it...

I think that's because they're now photo licenses - I think you'd look a little different to your photo being a 50 year old carrying a photo of a 17 year old.

I still have my pink and green paper licence and they will have to prise it out of my cold dead hands before I'll go for one of these trendy, new-fangled, photocards with a ten-year-renewal tax!

Pretty sure they sent me a reminder a couple of months before it ran out. It's a photo thing, same as the passport.

Your licence doesn't expire as such, just the photo, effing stupid photo licences.

I was forced to change in 200, otherwise I'd still have my paper one.

Yup, photo licences have a 10-year life span from issue even though you have an automatic provisional entitlement to drive until you are 70!

I just stick with my original green one that will expire when I'm 70. I can then renew to acphoto one FOC. I grudge paying them £20 for a photo one. I just see it as another tax.

Be too...its getting like a parchment now. Only I know how to unfold, and fold it without tearing more of it smile

There is no point moving to a photo version, if you still have a paper part to go with it.

Had my old A4 pink/green slip until fairly recently. An address change put a stop to that. HAD to have a new picture card. But of course being the UK, you still have to carry around a piece of A4 paper as well. In addition to renewing every 10 years.

Not for much longer. They are soon to withdraw the paper element.

The cold dead hand prising will (not - I was mistaken) take place in two years!

Well lucky you lot. I have to have 3, carry them on me at all times and pay for replacements.
