I've never owned a car with air con yet and never had trouble with windows misting up.

However when driving a car with air-con fitted, I find that as soon as it's switched off, within a few minutes all the windows will be misted up. Switching it back on again (but not necessarily directed at the window) will clear the windows within a minute or two.

Is this normal? Does any water collected by the air-con simply evaporate back into the cabin when switched off?

FWIW I've noticed this on a 206 and a couple of Citroen C3s

Try my car, it's like driving a mobile fking steam room thanks to it being from a time before AC. A time when a mans wife was his property and smoking was good for you.

I get fed up with the widpfe as she jumps into her misted up car and proceeds to wipe the inside of the screen with a dirty rag, sleeve, tissue, whatever etc etc and leaves it all smeary.

"Put the air con on and direct it to the windscreen and it'll be clear in around a minute" says I.

"Tried that it doesn't work" says she.

"We'll it worked for me the other day when I used your car" says I, in response.

"We'll I can't get it to do it" says she.

In other words I just can't be arsed, drives me mental, just like when she moans the fuel consumption is crap on her car, it is "as you drive everywhere like you stole it" however that's a different story.

You can get throught the problem though. Get some kitchen towel and wipe the moisture off the windows. Leave the AC off. get the heater and max blower power and heated rear window on. May help to open windows a little too. Now grit your teeth and wait til it clears out, could be half an hour before its properly done, but once its clear it stays that way like a car without AC.
Then, only use AC on dry days.

I've never turned the air conditioning off for long enough to find out if the windows steam up when I do so. That said, my tractor steams up like a bh mad
