I don't usually buy 'Car', but wanted a motor read and saw their supplement on crashes which is fascinating.
In the main Mag a three page article on the future of TVR. Am I the only TVR fan (five cars over last eight years plus hiring a Chim while in OZ), who is disressed to read PW sold the company to Moelskins, rather than to Nigel Gordon-Stewart and Creighton Brown?
A twenty four year old rouble billionaire with no manufacturing or motor industry experience vs. two guys with motor nobility blood in their veins (Lambo & McLaren). As an TVR owner, fan, future customer, or general PH'er - who would you have chosen?

Very often, most enthusiasts ventures' plummet into bankruptcy cause they're too enthusiastic. Just look at how many stamp collectors shops there are...
Now I know the 24 year old likes driving TVR, but I'm sure his dad might venture to suggest a board of guvnors sift through the finer points etc.

Yup - Daddy's a successful Russian businessman in today's Russia - is EXACTLY what concerns me!
Brown & Gordon-Stewart aren't 'enthusiasts', they're the real deal, high performance motor industry whizzos with the technical & PR cv's to boost TVR's quality & appeal. What a loss!

Martin Lilley was a similar age when he took over TVR in the 60's using financial assistance from his Dad
Peter Wheelre had no motor industry experience (other than being a customer) when he took over TVR in 1981.
A breath of fresh air, with fresh ideas, not tainted by other 'motor' industry beliefs. Isn't that what TVR stands for??

Martin Lilley - that WAS the 1960's not the 21st century
Peter Wheeler had industry and real business experience when he took over
TVR may 'stand' for many things, but without modern techniques, technical progress, better quality and longer cast iron warranty it won't stand for anything.
For that to be delivered you will need people with real knowledge & experience of modern motor making.
The best we can hope for is that Moleskins surrounds himself with such people, but what contacts can he have with his background & experience - not much!

Maybe he will surround himself by car experts, he is after all supposed to be a very swithed on guy (rich father apart). You seem to give the impression that you think he going to be deciding everything on his own. We know for a fact that PW is staying on to help (consult). Can't you just wait and see what happens before mud slinging?

Wasn't mud slinging, just pointing out the obvious and the comparison with who TVR could have had running the company.

Feedback from dealers I've spoken is very positive about the ways things are going so far.
Rather than knock out a raft of new TVRs to stamp his image onto TVR, he is sitting back and consolidating the key cars, dropping the Cerbera (rumours are a V8 engine may return...), putting the Sagaris and Typhon on hold while other work is done and to ensure they are of a high enough level.
There is no a thourough QC process and staff morale is up, he's even building an canteen and introduced company clothes for factory workforce - all of which may seem basic, but will make the relationship better with these guys who were on strike a while back.
He's even has the balls to say if they can't get the Sagaris right in 9 months then the project will be canned. This will upset those with a deposit down, but business-wise it makes sense.
Don't forget that someone brought up in a business environment has far more exposure and understanding than most, I'd wager that Richard Branson's kids understand more of stock trading than most here!

I would let the guy take stock, get to the bottom of the current production processes and an idea of where the improvements can be made.
Then when he has developed a plan of action, TVR may then issue a statement as to the direction it is going to go.

It was for sale at a price - I knew Creighton was interested but I guess with warranty issues and lack of sales hanging around like the sword of damaclees must have wanted a lower price.
Good luck to the young guy - sounds like he has jumped right into the quality control issue.

What happens to a small sports car company isn't the current & future customers business? That's the thinking that did away with the rest of the British car industry.
Go to a Lexus sales room and see how customer care is done there - The customer is No.1 and ALWAYS informed about whats going on.
Secrecy is unfortunately what Russians have had to live with for decades and what the British establishment loves......
