Hi all,

Me and a friend are hoping to buy something RWD, quickish, reliable and fun.

We intend to use it for drifting, trackdays and anything else that wont require us insuring/taxing/mot (we'll get a trailer)

Our budget started at a bangernomics £700 but we have since moved this up to £3k as we think we stand a better chance of getting something that wont need any work... Our intention is to spend as little as possible and get as much seat time as poss on track with as few breakages as poss.. a tall order i know!

So far I have been trying to convince myself that a Nissan Skyline GTS-t makes perfect sense. They come well in budget and usually with all the necessary bits we'd want for track days..

Something like this looks ideal!!

http://www.skylineowners.com/forum/showthread.php?...

Other cars on the radar are E36 M3's, Toyota mr2 turbos, nissan 200sx's..

Can anyone suggest anything else that we've overlooked?

I know there's always the trusty MX5 but i'm too big for one and would probably get frustrated at the lack of power...

Please feel free to bombard me with suggestions!! smile

Thanks in advance!smile

Cheers,
Sam

E36 328's are very popular track cars.

Thanks - yeah forgot to mention the e36 328.. Compared to the skyline i'm thinking it wouldntbe as much fun to drive? A modified one would probably be about the same price but with less power, same weight and probably a lot more miles. Hmmmmmm..

If you are too big for an MX5 then make sure you try any hard tops with the helmet on. Mk2 MR2s don't have a lot of headroom for example. I never fitted well in mine even with custom runners and a low race seat.

thanks -really good point! i remember years ago finding i couldnt get into an MR2 wth a helmet sitting straight.. I had to sit with my head tilted lol.. think that rules out the mr2...

Conversely, I fit into my mk3 MR2...just. But it needed a turbo before it was anywhere near quick enough. I'll be interested to hear about what you buy. It's a real dilemma for a big chap picking something that fits and yet won't eat a set of tyres and brakes every track day.

it certainly is! i find it so annoying that so many cars are just too small!! frown

interesting how the mk3 is bigger on the inside..

Still looking like the skyline will be the best bet.. They are heavy and will be costly on tyres and brakes but we'd only be using £3 a corner part worns... pads and discs are really cheap from ebay and engines/box good for well over 400bhp in standard trim... Think the biggest con will be the petrol..

A 200sx would be better as its lighter but they seem more expensive with a lot more miles..

M3's seem way out of of budget..

Anything else i'm overlooking??

Thankssmile
