If all else fails, read the instructions.

I'm hoping the instructions are going to magically appear below.
I want to do some circuit racing, all I've done are a few track days a few years ago. I own a Williams Clio that has been sat in the garage for 5 years, needs an overhaul. Each time I look into racing I either get completely confused at everything and leave it or something else steals my cash. I currently have some cash.
I have the car and possibly £8k to spend this year. I'd like to find a series that is good for novices where I can use the Williams (2.0L) but where the grid isn't made up of cars that have been modified to the point they wipe the floor with me.
Failing that I could sell my M3 road car and use the funds for a car in a series where all the entries are near identical cars.
So my main question is: Are there any race series where I can enter in the Williams that won't cost the earth to be competitive (10k+) if I actually have any driving skill?
Thanks guys.

Your choice of car gives you limited (possibly only that listed above) race series to choose from. This would be cheapest option as you'll only need a few mods to start with (cage, belts, seat, fire extinguisher, cut-off switch). It will also allow you to race with similarly experienced people as its a novice only series.

There's plenty of places you could race your Williams - CSCC Tin Tops springs to mind. I did a season with CSCC in 2010 and they are a nice bunch.
However, rather than chuck your £8K at the car - and prepping a car from scratch costs an absolute fortune - you could easily find a ready-made racing car with all the hard work done for £8K. Sell the Clio and that'll leave you with what, £4K for the ARDS test, buying a trailer, and sorting out your kit?

With your budget, as has been said I'd get something already built like this .........

Sell or keep the clio, swap the M3 for a 320d estate with a towbar, get a trailer and go racing!!! -even if you don't like it, just sell at the end of the season
and move on to something else.
