We've always had birds chirping quite loudly from about 4am, however recently we're now hearing chirping from 11pm to 7am.

I thought most birds slept at night and only chirped at the break of dawn???

Does anybody know why there is likely to have been this timing shift - different type of bird? Fear of a predator?

Just intrigued really...

Cheers

Yep some birds will sing all night if there's plenty of light around, especially robins. Our robins haven't stopped singing all winter (they hold territories all year). More birds have started to sing recently too before dawn.

Thanks guys.

As it hasn't been a full moon and this has only started happening this week, I wonder if this is related to the new ultra bright street lamps the council have installed?

They have a new (far brighter) white as opposed to orange light bulbs...

Entirely possible. The robin in our garden started singing really loudly when our outside light was triggered in the middle of the night. We switched the light off to shut the robin up!

Weirdly it's happened here too, I noticed a few days ago! Lived here for 6 years, council did the lights last year, but the last week the birds have been chirruping away at bedtime and while we're in bed, which I've never heard before!

Some on the Internet believe it's something to do with the magnetic poles shifting over a period of time...

Just need a bloke in a black hood to whisper "there's a storm coming..." !!!

You're quite lucky, I can't hear the beautiful bird song through the dogs barking
