My 4.6 hits the rev limiter at 5500 revs, is that a standard or has mine been altered! I see the dyno chart posted goes to 6500? What's other owners experience, thanks.

My 450 revs to at least 6,000. On the occasions I've bumped into the limiter I've never had the presence of mind to look at the revs, but if yours kicks in at 5,500 that would lead me to wonder if it's running a Range Rover map. Has yours had a replacement ECU at some point in its life?

Alternatively, is it possible that your rev counter is wrong?

Are you sure your TVR tacho is reading/functioning correctly?

+1 - This is more likely IMO.

Mine shows about 1,200 rpm at 850 rpm and 5,500 rpm at 6,000...

Its possible you have the wrong chip in the ECU, as the standard Range Rover fuel map cuts out at around 5500 rpm. You woul need to open up the ECU and take a look- The TVR chip is normally hand written like "4ltr cat"

Ok thanks boys, rev counter 2400 = 70mph. 3000 = 85mph recorded with sat nav! Gosh seems like both clocks read nonsense because going by revs I'd be doing 170mph at 6000 revs? Maybe I'm very high geared and a Landie chip, hope so, got to get to bottom of this, will let you all know what we find. These cars are an enigma or what! Lucky lucky you were bloody lucky or is that when a piston squeezed down the exhaust pipe!!!! I have no desire to hit the limiter and engine did not feel like it was doing 6500 revs, I was just finding out what my power curve on new cam felt like and hit limiter in 3rd and 4th. All done on my private runway I might add?!!!!???!

I've never actually hit a limiter but assume I have one and my rev counter has spun up to 6250+ often enough... Never seem to fell the power dropping off up there either, it just seems to keep pulling..

The rev counter on mine tends to bounce around especially at high revs so it can be hard to read, but I reckon I have hit 6 k ok without hitting the limiter.

I've always thought it sounds abit high on tickover so maybe rev counter could be reading low, I'll chat with my local Tvr man who just re built engine. Thanks

You can check you rev counter accuracy easily Alun.

Your car is geared to give 26.6 per 1000rpm in 5th.

Using your sat nav as your speedo, drive at a steady 53mph in 5th, your rev counter should be showing exactly 2000rpm.

Of course the potential inaccuracy of your tacho is unlikely to me linier so you need to test at different road speeds.

Some examples for you:

1. At 67mph you should be seeing 2500rpm

2. At 80mph you should be seeing 3000rpm

3. At 85mph you should be seeing 3200rpm

4. At 106mph you should be seeing 4000rpm

5. If you're truly hitting your rev limiter at 5500rpm in theory you should be travelling at 146mph when it chimes in

Today I went out to play with two Cerberas (one with a 6.2 litre LS engine) so I did test 5 above.

Pulling 5500rpm (displayed on my Canems software) in 5th as I passed that LS Cerb, I can confirm my TVR tacho over reads by 10%.

Stop for a pint and LS Cerb man says "you know that would have been very different in the dry"

Checking your tacho accuracy can be fun hehe

NB: When TomTom says 147 leptons, it's time to slow down rolleyes

I hit the limiter by forgetting to change up in second when overtaking. While my eyes were naturally on the truck coming the other way, I think I hit it at 6500. I have certainly revved to over 6000 rpm on a track day

Well amazing as it sounds chimpofdarkness I went 146 mph yesterday (satnav) didn't hit limiter, going by your post my counter under revs, I will do tests according to your list and report back, thanks so much, it's starting to be abit worrying not knowing, from previous test I've done,

70mph = 2400 ?
80mph = 2800 ?
85mph = 3000 ?

All done using phone satnav!
So my rev counter reads low, speedo reads fast, and yes 146.7 was fast enough to start thinking of a blow out, I bottled it at that, no chance of focusing on rev counter at that speed, god I thought I'd got the speed thing out of my system years ago, then I bought little old tivvie, in me old jag, one handed at that speed, err Tvr feels like 200, just bloody brilliant, ha ha ha. Tracked and felt really good mind! Love it with a passion. That was great info again chaps.
