Moderating for tone?

Is the PH administration happy with the feel of the forums? I can't help but noticing a lot of unnecessary sniping about spelling and grammar as well as some really unpleasant and, again unnecessary, arguments about pointless differences in attitude on the forums. Does PH feel it has a role to play in keeping the forums civil and welcoming or is it perceived that an open forum is a better resource for users and provider of brand strength for PH.

My viewpoint will be obvious from my question but the questions above are open and hopefully even enough in feel to allow an answer without any suggestion of being on the defensive.
