Spotted on another thread that a Volvo "XC70 T6 Lux AWD Geartronic" with the options the guy wanted lists at £55k.

I know there are ways to get a Golf, Mini, 1-Series or pretty much any other car from "ze germans" to cost silly money by the time you add on a lot of toys, but £55k for a Volvo estate slightly surprised me.

Any more examples of unexpected cars that get batst mental once you start playing with options?

You could easily take an A6 Allroad to 80k+ by ticking some of the individual options.

I thought it was a typo but no, you can indeed spec a XC70 all the way up to just shy of £60k!

It's not that pricey for what its up against. The latest A6 Allroad with the twin turbo diesel is £50k before you even touch the options list. ETA beaten to it smash

I just specced a X5 40d SE with decent options and got it to £55k; I know which I would prefer.

Yes but if you went to the extreme with the BMW's options list it would be ridiculous, it isn't about what car is 'better'. Options lists un general are so extensive that any car can be pushed way beyond any rational boundary.

If I remember correctly my V70R was £36,000 in 1997.

15 years on inflation would probably double that.

Seems reasonable to me when compared to the pricing of a new Golf or even the list prices of various Astras and Focuses.

For many years OEM have been using the options list to gain significant profit on sold cars.

Surely we all know that options have always been stupid money!?!? So stick a load on and the price skyrockets.

I find German manufacturers (especially Audi) really exploiting this. I was speccing up an A6 and it's so easy to top 20k with options before you know it as some options requires other options to be selected too!

If you want eye watering go onto Apples site and spec a Mac Pro to the gills.
I got it to well over 10 grand!

Slightly O/T but it proves the point that you can spec almost anything to well beyond reasonable levels.

Not trying to be a brand snob but having friends with Volvos and from reading up on them I wouldn't spend 50k on one...

Would you spend £43k on a Golf? I just specced a Golf R to that much and would rather have the XC70.

I wouldn`t want to spend 50k on an Audi either on that basis.

Hello everyone.

This thread would appear to be about me and my posting on the car salesman thread looking for the best deal on a new XC70 V8.

No offence taken. The car is actually for my brother and wouldn't be my first choice of car for £50k. He's also just bought a 61 plate XKR for £49950 and that is very very nice but wants an estate that's fast to accompany it.
