European breakdown cover for 25 year old car

We will be going it Le Mans this year, hopefully in the Jaguar. The car has been off the road for over two years - started up and driven regularly - and won't be back on the road until the end of May.

Has anyone bought breakdown cover for trips to Europe before? Would it be best to go with someone like the AA or go with the breakdown cover provided by insurers?

Best to get classic insurance cover that has breakdown as part of package. mine will allow you to upgrade for a few quid for european cover. Most companies are a bit anti older stuff and charge through the nose is at all.

I've looked at prices from the AA and they were around £80 which I thought was quite reasonable, would breakdown cover provided through the insurers be significantly cheaper?

I live in germany and bought an ADAC membership. 80 quid 'plus' pack = covers full europe and includes supplying a hire car if my old girl (42 year old Triumph) breaks down and spoils a holiday.

Check what packages you can get from the AA / RAC, i'm sure they'll do something similar.

My classic car insurance (roughly £100 a year per car) includes recovery within 500 miles (I think) of home, including overseas, as part of the policy. Mine is through Richardson Hosken, but I think other specialist classic insurers offer similar. Certainly worth asking.

I'm sure people in the UK have joined the ADAC as well. Do I recall correctly that you have to pay for recovery & then they refund you in their schemes?

When the car was last on the road it was insured with either Lancaster or Footman James and I'm sure they provided European breakdown cover for the £120 the car cost to insure a year but I don't know if that is still the case?

My policy is with Footman James.

Thanks, just checked their site and they do mention European & UK Breakdown Cover.
