Roller shutter doors

Hi Folks,
I`m thinking of installing a roller shutter door to my garage, anyone out there have any experience of having one intalled ? what make to go for, also who to get to install it in the south east area...

Yes I had one installed. I went for a Securoglide compact to replace an up and over door. I went for the compact version to minimise the intrusion into the roof space as aI have a car lift in the garage. I also asked for the mounting to be done so that the guides were on the inside of the brickwork so I gained a couple of inches clearance either side by removing the wooden frame for the old door. All done in one day, runs off a 13amp socket mounted near the door (an existing socket). It has a sensor in the bottom so if it touches something on the way down it stops

I have 2 remotes plus I can open/close using buttons on the control unit and there is a manual over ride in case of power problems.

Really happy with it, much better weather sealing so no more leaves blown into the garage.

Only negative I would say is that it is a bit slow.

I used a local company called http://abbeygaragedoors.com/ who I would recommend but I don't think they cover Kent.

can't answer on the roller doors but if its added security your after for the E type ,

Roller shutter or sectional up & over?

I've had both recently and you'll find that the roller shutter is cheaper, slower but not insulated, my sectional door keeps the home garage dry & warm, but blocks out light from above, & no lift space
At work, the roller shutters are convenient, secure & easy.

I have a roller shutter on my double garage, it is the galvanised industrial type.
I went this route as although the garage is on my property, it is accessed via a lane to a field at the rear and this was more secure than other offerings.

Not the prettiest of things, but has remote opening/closing and provided sterling service for around 7 years now.

TBH if you're half competent get one & fit it yourself. Peice of piss to do it, I fitted mne with my leg in a cast. As long as you get it level & square you really cant go wrong.
One thing to bear in mind though, you need room for the door to roll up. I reckon my door is about an inch lower than with the old up n over door when its rolled up

Hi, I have 40mm insulated sectional doors on my two garages, one Hormann and one Cartech, both excellent. Having the insulation takes away the temperature differences that contribute towards condensation on the admittedly rare sunny days we get..

Another vote for abbey doors, I had one fitted 8 years ago and has worked perfectly in that time. I'm near Reading but don't know how far they travel.

When I was getting quotes from different firms I realised that they all were fitting the same product.Seceuroglide insulated PVC with remote control.I had it fitted by Dynasty Doors of Reading in November 2008 and its worked perfectly ever since,and still 100% sealed when shut.
