Finally, the '970' mile Cerb is running as it should.

For those that followed:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

its been a long story and I'll leave that thread to report on the legal position. I do know though, that both Andy and I have proceedings under way but neither of us have actually got anything back yet.

For those that don't know, I bought this Cerb in June 2012, believing it to be the best original condition and lowest mileage Cerb remaining, having previously been in a number of private collections.

6 months on and with expenditure well into 5 figures, it really is finally as it should have been when I purchased it. To get it there has required a full engine rebuild (TVR Power), cats, lambda sensors, maf sensor, plug leads, coil pack and ECU. In other words, virtually everything concerned with a running engine was shot. Why is a very good question and probably one that will never be answered unless someone owns up, as everyone who has seen the engine internals or the melted cats doesn't see how this amount of damage could have been caused by just starting the engine occasionally in a collection. The condition of rest of the car, chassis, bodywork, interior, clutch, brakes etc. all suggest the previous usage was minimal.

So finally a few pics as it is now!

The 1000 mile service was completed just before Christmas so starting to open up a little more now and seems sweet I'm finally pleased to say!

Congrats, although I don't envy that expenditure.

Is there any possibility that there had already been an engine transplant?

Glad to see that you have got it sorted but it may have only covered 970 miles and with it not being used and knowing how fragile early speed-six engines were,i hope that you were not surprised that the engine needed re-building? I hope that you also have had all the clutch and brake seals done too????

Hard to know how it's been treated over all them years. Various dealers have had it advertised. If someone's been revving the feck out of it every morning, it could have easily been sat there on 5 miles & a knackered engine.

I always thought that would end up staying in a museum.

Surely once you put a few miles on it, it's just another post rebulid, low milage, speed six ?

"Low mileage speed six". Is there such thing as a high mileage one ?

hope you enjoy it now, I would have long since given up or battered someone.

I believe TVR's are to be used and all the better for it as this story goes to prove. The 450SE I bought in 1989 and sold in 1995 with 60K on the clock has recently been sold again with 106K and it still looks and sounds good.

IMHO it would be a waste for it to sit in a museum and not be used for what it was designed for. Doesn't mean I won't enter the odd concours too of course.

Firstly - congratulations on your perseverence and I hope that this Cerb drives as well as it now looks..... I just hope that every time you think about the car, you think about how enjoyable it is to drive; and that your thoughts are not tainted and clouded by your (frankly shamefull and criminal) experience.....

I had missed the previous thread due to not being on PH much at all in 2nd half 2012, and I really hope that the legal actions result in you being suitably compensated financially for all the hassle, frustration and of course, expenditure.

Now: look forwards to enjoying a pristine S6 Cerb and finally after all these years putting some miles under the wheels!

Shorts has a thread on here about his TVR T350 Speed Six it has just went through the 200,000 mile barrier last week!!It was rebuilt at TVR Power at 60,000 miles. Now In anybodys language that is high mileage and over 140,000 miles since it was rebuilt!!

Thanks guys for all the positive comments. I've done quite a few other bits sorting out things that were never right on new TVR's (e.g. window alignment, a few rattles, exhaust knocking) so starting to feel like a 'normal' new TVR now biggrin

A few more bits to do like getting a leven SS6 pedal set (let me know if anyone has a set they don't want) and putting non return valves in the washer tubes (arrived but not fitted yet) so starting to like the Cerb for what it is now rather than the awful experience the purchase was.

Jesus Christ, David,

that is a stunning list of cars you have in your profile there.

On behalf of Cerbdom "Thank You" for expending so many resources on re-introducing this baby back into it's natural world.

Fabulous internal and external colour combo and as close to a brand new Cerbera as you are ever going to get. Whatever it cost, it looks like it was worth it. smile
