So what are people's thoughts on polishing and detailing in the depths of winter, ie the next 2 months or so?

My 4 year old Jag XF has never seen polish being an ex company car, and I want to:

Use Chipex to fill in any chips etc (and some road rash on the rear of the side skirts)
Tar remover on bottoms of wings and front door (can feel loads of this on the car)
Clay
G3 scratch remover
Polish
Wax

Is it agood idea to do this in winter, ie now, or wait until the weather is a little warmer?

Personally I would wait 'til it's warmer but I'm a whimp!

I would say it's better than when the sun is too warm.

The only problem I have is if I fanny about too long and condenstation kicks in, mid-PM at this time of year.

Well I was out earlier and clayed, polished and waxed part of the car. There's just not enough daylight to do everything though so I tend to do it a couple of panels at a time.

The cold isn't an issue for me, just wondering about the way the polish will react and also the chipex....

No problem in the winter, i'd say try and get it in the warmth and dry somewhere as theres a fair bit of moisture in the air ( well there was around me today! )

As mentioned, I think your issues are the reduced hours of daylight and that the chipex or wax will take longer to cure.

I'd keep the products in the warm if you don't already before using them to help. I'd be tempted to leave chipex until it warms up, but you should be fine polishing and waxing a couple of panels.

I gave mine a big pre winter wash/detail before winter and was only planning on normal washing until spring. But, the back had got pretty tarred up with the amount of roadworks locally so I had to dig out the iron x, clay and wax last week.

I had no problems doing mine the other day. I left the wax in the house before I started so that it would be easier to work with when I needed it but that was all. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
