Although, I think I may recall something about control modules and/or corroded electrical wires causing similar symptoms on Octavias.

Had a very similar problem with my 56 plate Octavia Elegance. Kind of annoyed about it to be honest. I bought the car 12 months old from a main dealer and the 100+ point multi check managed to miss the fact that none of the car's interior lights were working. It was two day before I noticed they didn't work (first time I came back to the car in the dark), but I also had no boot, interior or glovebox light.I found a blown fuse and replaced it, but it blew again a day later. Took it back to the Skoda dealer and complained, they investigated the problem and found a fault in the interior light and switch panel in the roof. They replaced it under warranty and it never happened again.
