Hi,

Anyone up for a wee run in the Lothians / Borders in late Jan / early Feb?

Meeting point: Livingston (Location will be emailed to people attending)
Date: 27/01/2013 - meet at 8.30am leave at 9.00am
Route: ryanthescot planning route (will be emailed to people once confirmed)

Update:

I am in need of a rather large favour! Between a 90+ hour work week, a 3 day commute home from offshore West Africa this week, and an internet connection that is so slow it takes 10+ minutes to load up Google Maps. I am in desperate need of someone to take over the planning for this run.

I am now due to arrive home on the 26th (lot later than planned), but would still love to come on either date. I just don't see how I would be able to fit the planning in and give it the attention it deserves.

I think the ideal scenario would be if either ryanthescot or Davie took over as they have been the most involved.

Ryan already has 2 stellar routes planned out, so all that is needed is investigation as to where the best place to stop for a brew would be, and to send an email out with the details.

I really wish I was at home in front of my own computer just now so I could get stuck in!

Thanks,

P getmecoat

I've just spent the last hour making a route on Tyre in the Lothians and Borders - I'm up for it.

Any idea of a starting point?

I'm easy, although I do think the driving gets better the further East you go?

So lets have some suggestions!

What is the route you have Ryan?

Yup. Not been on a run of any sorts for about 4 years. Would be nice to get out for the simple joy of driving.

I could be in dependant on dates (i cant do 26/27th jan).

Borders sounds good, we went a run last year on A701, A708 and some of the surrounding roads including the single track which links both via Talla Reservoir - stunning views. Lots of mentions of Borders in the last EVO magazine so my intention was to go a Border's run some point this year.

I'd be up for this is the dates suited

Worth putting it in the North of England sections too?

There's a good single track road from Duns to Longformacus (sp?!) thats fun but fairly slow and sensible?

Failing that, plenty of fun a/b roads in the Borders..

Yet to get involved in a PH run so could be up for this date depending.

Cracking roads down that way - A701 then over Talla then cut back up to Selkirk and north again is a good little loop. Nice mix of roads and isn't a massive distance which, given it's dark by 4pm at this time of year, is no bad thing.

Will keep an eye on this.

Looking at it my route is more West Lothian/Lanarkshire down towards Biggar and Moffat then over towards Selkirk, up to Peebles then back home. But I was planning this as leaving from Livingston as that's where I stay. It's 150 miles all in.

I'd be happy to go further east and south if that's what you're thinking of but maybe some idea of a starting point could be a good idea. All the PH runs I've been on have been west coast so it would be a nice change.

Si with his monaro used to organise the Borders runs, but it's been a few years. My 1st ph run was a borders run Aug 2009 and the last one was Sep 2010. His runs and people raving about Paulqv's runs prompted me to start the Stirling runs. Flipflop helped a little bit but no much.

Might try and make it dated depending.

Not this year for EVO Car of the Year....they based themselves in Kelso and used the roads nearby including St Mary's Loch (or if looking on iPhone maps its name is seemingly Saint Mary's Lake)

What about coast to coast. Largs to Eyemouth via the most interesting roads you can find?

Hi

Start point I used was Dalkeith head down round the borders or Livingston head out into Lanark then across to the Scottish borders. Lots of great roads, lot depends on how big a run you wanna do.

Just Pm if u want more info.

Ok chaps, some excellent suggestions, I've not been able to get a good look at google maps as I am at sea and the internet connection is incredibly slow (but at least I have a connection!)

So maybe someone else could take over the route plan?

Would people prefer week days or a weekend?
I'm thinking maybe a nice early start on Sunday 27th Jan / 3rd Feb

Anyway for now......

Username Name (optional) Car Preferred Date (27th or 3rd)
pscl227 Paul e60 M5 can do either date

Well I'm in and I'm happy to do the route plan if people are alright with setting off from Livingston (Or there about). Also I'm going to propose a new field for the table - where you're coming from as this may help determine a suitable starting point (or if people want to meet to travel to the starting point like what usually happens from the showcase carpark)

Username Name (optional) Car Preferred Date (27th or 3rd) Leaving from
pscl227 Paul e60 M5 can do either date
ryanthescot Ryan Megane R26 can do either date Livingston
