After a bit of help, the original radio in my 1990 Orion is not working. The unit turns on and displays the three dashes as if the code is required but they do not flash. The manual states this is the result of the incorrect code being entered ten times and a trip to the dealership is required.

Can anyone advise how to resolve the issue other than a visit to ford?

Buy a CD player from Halfords for £50? Or look on Ebay for another cassette player. Have you actually tried entering the correct code?

The radio will not allow any code to be entered. I wanted to keep everything original.

Maybe try taking the radio out completely (ie unplugging it), for a while? Other than that a car audio shop, or Ford as you say.

The radio on my 1991 Sierra did that, I presume your radio is a Ford Sound 2000 model? What I did was unplug it completely, plug it back in and wait for half an hour (with the radio switched on) then it will sort itself out and allow you to re-enter the code. Bit of a pain in the arse but worth it in my opinion.

Thanks, I will try this. How long did you leave the unit unplugged for?

I only left it for a minute, i would imagine it shouldn't make much difference how long you leave it. That method should work, I'm not sure of any other way of resetting the radio.
