Hi,
Been to Le Mans a few times and going again this year, plan on travelling down on either the Thursday or Friday (and probably staying at either the PH campsite or Airtrack) but really wanted to go down with a group of others and make an event of it !!! Is anyone travelling down from the Essex / Herts area at all??

First trip booked. Appreciate it might be a 'piece of string question' but how long should I allow to drive from Calais? I.e what time do I need to think about crossing?

Five hours give or take. Allow a leisurely drive on the scenic route, a nice stop for lunch, catch a 07:00-09:00 tunnel and you should arrive Le Mans 15:00-17:00.

Check out the Wiki at the top of the forum. This will give a good indication of when most people are travelling across. If you go via tunnel, find an interesting looking group in the terminal car park with the same boarding ticket as you hanging from their mirrors and politely ask if they would mind you tagging along. Then they will not think it odd if you stop for breaks with them.

ps: Anything with "Race?... What Race" written on it, forget it. You won't keep up biggrin

Shaun,

I live in Essex, not far from Stanstead. We have 7-8 cars going down there on the Thursday (picking most up in Kent)
You'd be welcome to tag along.

You will see loads of other cars heading down to Le mans, every petrol / service station will be full of Le mans travelers wink I normally turn off the motorway and take the more empty D roads, you see a hell of a lot more of France and not have to worry quite so much about the rozzers, but even though Im in a quick car it can add a couple of extra hours + fuel stops to the journey time! Thing is once you get off the main roads you can sometimes hardly see another car for a few miles at a time!
