Good luck and have fun, but PLEASE, whatever your buy: drive sensibly and make sure your car is track worthy (i.e. won't hit anyone else or drop fluids).

Thanks,

If you've got experience with RWD, MX-5, 200 SX, E36 BMW.

If not, 205 GTI, Clio 172, Golf GTI...

Some kind of MR2.

MX5.

Porsche 924s still cheap?

For my best uni friends birthday I took him on a trackday and gave him free reign with my 991 and nabbed his Clio 200 w/ cup chassis for a few runs, I think I had more fun than he did in the end! So perhaps a cheaper renaultsport clio?

MR2 Mk2.

Under £1000 for the car, £500 to sort brakes/suspension and an oil change and perhaps a second set of wheels and tyres second hand.

I just got a 1999 Celica GT as a trackday car, handles nice and fairly quick when fully stripped out, just a shame its FWD.

Oh yeah of course, we don't want to be all boy racery about it! And yeah we'll definitely check the car over, motorsport engineers in making over here wink

Having done this my recommendation is to get the fastest rwd car you can afford. These days that would probably be a BMW 328i. Buy for 1K, spend money on fitting serious heavy duty brake pads, DOT5 fluid, new plugs, full oil change in engine, gearbox & diff. Fit good quality tyres if they are old or an obscure brand & buy a really good tyre pressure gauge.

yes

Saloon is alleged to be stiffer owing to the lack of fold down seats (metal panel in place behind regular seats instead).
