I thought I saw a post briefly on the forum yesterday, where the factory was giving away a FREE exhaust system if you build a (mostly) "factory spec" car... so I looked on their website, and sure enough, here it is....

http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/Content.aspx?f=exhau...

I wish they had been doing that when I built my car a couple of years ago !!

Regards

Yup, it was posted in a new topic by the Factory yesterday on this forum. I notice that the topic has since disappeared and been removed from PH confused (possible advertisement rules ban?) scratchchin

Nice offer, I hope it's still going by the time I get around to the back end of my build smile

If you buy most of the kit it is a very good offer? but amercanspeed overstate power and pay the factory a big lump for every engine sold for fitment in to a ultima. Some of the parts they sell is are not fit for purpose, but do not argue thats not allow.

Bold statements. What parts?

I take it you have something concrete to back up this comment? If not - got a good lawyer? hehe

Nice answer, Ultima factory.

People do sometimes moan about the price/performance of the American speed parts, but your performance statistics seem to speak for themselves (assuming you didn't cheat). Having a "plug and play" option is obviously a nice if expensive thing to have, but the builder makes the choice. Compromise is a way of life for 99% of the populace.

What I'm surprised at, is that you are willing to replace parts that wear out sooner or later, considering the nature of the car- it's built to be thrashed, after all. Even 1000 miles in an Ultima driven properly (not polished and licked in the garage as some probably are) will put enormous strain on components. I suppose it's good, if sometimes costly publicity.

Well done. And also well done for the exhaust offer. Don't look a gift-horse in the mouth!

Good one Ted and Richy-Babe!

A very well considered response... You have my vote as always!

The ONLY reason I did not get my engine etc from you was that at the time you did not offer the option you do now, so I had walk the pioneer-tightrope with all the issues that brings, however it has turned out OK so far. If you had offered LS7 at the time, I certainly would have come knocking on your door!

I have nothing but praise for you and your team, top people, even though Ted is old, and Richard... well, he is unique in sooo many strange ways! tongue out

If there's nothing else to this, then I'm not sure why you'd give a refund on an out of warranty product.

Regardless of whether it was used within the first year, the fact it is outside is simply tough. Why should the factory cover the cost, it's not their fault.

In business it is called risk-assessment! Not necessarily because they were not within the spirit of SOGA, but more to do with customer relations...and being nice people (well- during the daylight hours that is! wink)

Foooook! What a song & dance over a starter motor.... especially one that's out of warranty and was fitted in a manner other than suggested by the factory.

From the above, I'd say the factory did more than they needed to, so nothing to apologise for there.

One of the joys of kit supply those longer-term issues ...especially in top end/more expensive stuff where average folk are doing their best to build something that is perhaps on limit of budget or other constraints.
Parts hang around unused for months or years sometimes unchecked in hostile build conditions .. Tough to trade like that somedays for the factory but they keep doing it... we should be equally thankful !

Despite the banter in both directions, there exists mutual respect at some level !

G luck.

I support the Factory and well done for being so good to the customer!!

For fuuuuk sake we are only talking 110 + vat!! If you can't afford that for your Ultima hobby / sports car then forget it and take up tiddly winks and walking as a hobby! Stop pissing around with legal threats with a company that has provided so much for you already! No wonder British industry is screwed with customers acting like this these days! I'm proud that my hard earned cash goes towards supporting an excellent and well run British company providing a superb product. I have limited time to enjoy my toys so will happily pay to have them in tip top condition for my needs. Ok, you may of chosen a non factory part, so have I, and I am well aware of the consequences. If that is a part of Ultima ownership you want to experience like myself, then be ready to open your wallet if it does not mechanically all come together and produce the bhp you believed you would get.

furious and pissed off to read and write this - rant over, I'M OFF TO THE PUB!!

I suspect philcerb is a rather disillusioned owner. He had a rather expensive part finished car completed by somebody he paid. It stands him in at a not insubstantial amount but is probably more extreme than he thought it would be. A double whammy.

It has been for sale in the classifieds for a long time and hasn't shifted. The last thing he wants is to spend more money on it, especially if he's not driving it (much). This has not been the dream he wanted.

The Factory must have decided that the grief of a legal action was not worth the time and trouble as well as the bad publicity, and I suspect philcerb knew this would be the case.

I suspect he will never be a happy owner.

I understand the Factory's desire to reduce the number of "modified" Ultimas being built and I think this offer is a good way to encourage the standard build.

However (you knew there was going to be a "however" didn't you!!), I remember being told by Ted that what they are selling is a hobby, not just a car. I never intended modifying my car when I started the rebuild but I have really enjoyed the challenge and learned a tremendous amount. I like the fact is is unique(ish).

The Factory have always been happy to help me with parts and info which is much appreciated.

I am not planning on selling my car but I could build another at some point in the future. It may be a while so will probably be electric!!!!!!!

If people want a close to hassle free install of course you will buy the suggested parts. But you do usually pay extra for hassle free bolt in.

Each to their own though. I bought this car with all intention of not using the Ultima suggested equipment. And I don't see the issue with that at all. I like pushing the limits and trying things. And I thought that's what this car is all about. I'm still using an LS based engine. So it's not like it's a chopped up stter or anything. But because I'm willing to take on a challenge and know where to source parts I did a bigger horsepower engine package and used all factory GM accessories for a lot less than buying a suggested engine. Things needed modifying and it wasn't bolt in which is definately not for everyone.
