Anyone attempted this or know how to do it?

I want to take the old cracked screen out of the SEAC and then take some time to do some work on the screen frame before the new screen goes in. I could get the screen fitters to come and do it but I suspect they won't be very careful and may damage the trim or even the Kevlar. If all they do is attack it with a sharp knife and a cold chisel then I can do that myself!

Hi Martin

Took my broken / cracked one out of my old 400SE a few years ago. Carefully took the plastic edging off the outside of the screen if you have it with the aid of a Stanley knife you will need it later!

Carefully cut a blade width slot round the mastic of the whole screen with the knife

At the bottom corner I got a hole through all the black mastic and used a cheese wire to go round the screen you will need a santa's little helper! Little bit at a time keeping close to the glass so as to not damage the car or trim.

Job was a good un!

You can pick up a Cheese wire type tool from Mebay used for such jobs once you are through it's then a case of cutting through the sealant all the way round until the glass is free of the frame - you then should be able to push out the glass. If you damage the screen pillar trim - don't worry as it is easy to replace - you might find the trim may come lose along with the foam behind which may be rotten anyway. Replacing the screen is straight forward assuming the area is very clean and you are using the correct sealant. You may however, be better off leaving it for a pro to do once your trim is ok if you have replaced it...

Thanks for the info folks; I'll have a go with some suitable tools at the weekend. I managed to get it started in one corner already by pulling out chunks where it was already cracked, so I'm optimistic!
