It looks kind of MPV style, but quite big and square, probably around 8 years old? Not a GL or an ML (at least I don't think it was an ML - it looked more like a really oversized estate than an off-roader) and I thought it was an R class but from the pics of those they look too much like a normal sized estate car for what I was thinking of, I seem to recall they did have quite a step up into them. Saw one once at a service station and never seen another!

GL (MPV type) and R class (4x4 type) are both 7 seaters.

not a G, think it must be an R, but they must look smaller in photos without anything to scale it by, they look kind of c class size in photos but in reality they are enormous! And yes, I see they were 6 seaters, I only assumed 7 as I saw so many kids climbing out of it but it could have been 6 in total.

yes The early ones were 6-seat; later they produced more "normal" five and seven seat models (with different wheel-bases, I think).

Yep - I think the 7 seat was an "L" i.e R350 (5 seat) or R350L (7 seat). Big chunk of car!

R350L, that is the badger - top man, rarer than hen's teeth it seems! Seems they are as exciting to drive as a bus though, so although a nice curiosity an S Max seems to make a lot more sense.

I think the LWB version has quite a lot more rear leg-room than something like an S-Max. It's probably rather more refined, too.

Plus you can't get an S-Max with a five litre V8. hehe

all true, but I do want something engaging for when the kids aren't in it and by all accounts they aren't. Running costs likely to cause much shuddering too.

I love the R class. Really not comparable with Ford...

Has anyone seen an R-class out there in the real world? I've only seen one, in an Ikea car park, and I couldn't believe my eyes!
