The Dreaded Outriggers!
Discussion
So my outriggers need replacing!
I knew this when I bought the car though, one side is alot worse than the other but may aswell get them both done, I guess.
So does anyone know people that do this in the Devon area or have had it done and how much they paid?
Ive heard there is a couple different ways to do it, the best sounds a 2" or so body lift and all new outriggers welded on. The other way is to cut though the fibreglass to access the outrigger, I have heard this is a bit of a cowboys way and could knock the value of my car, but does seems to be cheaper, quite a reputable garage has given me a quote and said they would do it this way.
Any advice would be great

Cut through the fibreglass???? have to admit I've not heard of this method before... Would also have to say if anyone suggested they'd cut up my beloved body to get to the outriggers I'd punch them squarely in the face I knew this when I bought the car though, one side is alot worse than the other but may aswell get them both done, I guess.

Sorry, just my personal opinion

Personally I wouldn't go for a 2" lift. I think it's false economy. It really doesn't cost a huge amount more to have the job done with a proper body removal, and you'll then be able to see the rest of the chassis. There may well be a bit of patching required elsewhere, and once you've got the body off you might even decide to go the whole hog and have a full chassis restoration.
Have a chat with these guys in Somerset (not too far from Devon), Colin worked on my old Griff when he was at Dulford's and has a good reputation.

Cornish Pasty repaired his this way and detailed it on here a couple of years ago; butchery but effective.

Jaw still on the floor that you would even consider that. Willow Sports cars in Newark charge about £1,600 for a body lift and outrigger replacement - not near you but should give you an idea of cost. Can't vouch for their work as not used them but planning to give them a visit to check mine over.
Google them, good pics and info of what they do

Indeed, and for the avoidance of doubt that price includes full body removal, not just a 2" lift. I don't think Nick does it any other way, and I was very happy with both his work and the patient and attentive way he works with his customers. My full chassis restoration was £3,000, plus a number of other jobs that took it to £3,500.Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
