With Valentines Day 'just' around the corner I am looking for some input from the PH population on opinions for places to stay. I am aware this place is full of gigolos, chauvinists and powerfully built company directors usually busy banging their secretaries whilst necking a red bull. However, I know this place also has plenty of the normal man, the gentleman, the decent guy - I'm looking for information and input from yourselves & the female members of the Lounge.

I'm pondering the idea of going away for 1 night, somewhere very romantic in the Borders, Lake District, Southern Scotland or Northern Scotland maybe as far up as Pitlochry, not too far north.

Do any members have any great experiences of nights away? Nothing mega extravagant, budget max is around £300 for 1 night (Fri 15th Feb). Has to have an onsite Spa (swimming pool, sauna, steam room etc.) I have had a shop around and fired a few emails off so there is some pretty good value packages out there including dinner, B&B for around £250. We've been to Cameron House on a few occasions and really liked the place, so something along these lines. Also considering a Castle / Country Club stay but mostly this is for the missus to have some time off and relax and enjoy herself. I have had a shop around and fired a few emails off so there is some pretty good value packages out there including dinner, B&B for around £250.

Feedback is most appreciated.

Edit: This is perfect just too far away! http://www.mansionhousehotel.co.uk/index.php

Wood Hall, which is part of the Handpicked Hotels group I'd think fits the bill. It's near Wetherby.

I got married at one of their other locations last year. The Missus and I haven't had a bad experience at any of them (yet!).

We've been to Wood Hall twice, and looking at going again this year.

If you can go as far as Pitlochry I would recommend the Atholl Palace would be worth considering. Stayed there a couple of times, and if you get one of the more xpensive rooms it is quite special.
