MPG BEST AND WORST.
Discussion
I realise that most manufacturers claimed MPG figures are almost impossible to achieve, but some are ridiculous. I have an Audi A1 tdi that the manufacturer claims will do 80+MPG yet I fail to get more than low 50's driving like a vicar and freewheeling down hills yet my parents have a Volvo S80 D5 auto thats supposed to do 42 yet has averaged 49 over 50,000 miles. Which Manufacturer tells the biggest Porkies when it comes to fuel consumption?
My dads S60 D5 has a rather optimistic trip computer...it regularly records 62 mpg. Working it out on paper though and it's actually doing 50-52 mpg.
Still very good, and a great car, but not quite as good as the computer would have you believe.

You are aware the mpg figures quoted by manufacturers are not the manufacturers figures aren't you?Shambler said:

Hah, RX8 R 3, long run 75-80 mph best I've seen 21 mpg, door to door 14-19 mpg, cheap to buy, FFS, deep pockets to run.
They're shockingly bad on fuel aren't they?People claim that they get 20 mpg easily, but the best I've ever managed was the same as you: 21 mpg on a longish run. I was averaging 12-16 mpg in the 18 months I had it with 60% town driving and 40% duel carriageway/motorway miles.
