Was at Bruntinthorpe today and saw a white van being tested for max speed by ex copper. White van man has a ticket for doing 120mph from plod ....with 3 pairs of ladders on the roof

Manufacturer claims max speed 95mph

Test speed 90mph max

Someone was lying ...

90-95 mph on the level, 75mph uphill, 120mph downhill. I guess it depends on what the conditions where when he was nicked. Manufacturers figures dont specify the maximum downhill. If the drag aint too bad and the gearing is high, very high speeds can be attained. Didnt that Fiat Punto guy also have a test like this done recently? I dont see the point of a test on a race track, surely the bit of road concerned is the place to test it if anyone is interested in what actual speed the vehicle may be able to attain relevant to the alleged offence.

wanna bet?.......its the high gearing in 5th,only thing needed then is a long enough downhill gradient to reach that comfortably and its suprising how quick a derv burner can get to 120 on a downhill (i had my old 1.8d escort van upto an indecated 125mph on the m5,on the flat it would do an indecated 94mph)

This thing has 3 ladders on it, the only way it would see 120 is if it fell off a very large cliff

Wasnt an LDV was it?

Seriously though, on our motorways, its not unusual to be doing well over the ton, and still find you are mixing it with Vito's and Sprinter's. We have a very pretty metallic silver 1.9TDi Movano on our fleet, and its a damn sight faster than my 1.9DCi Megane is.

My Audi A4 does 121MPH

I have only ever done 119MPH though and never got a ticket. (Not on public road of course)

Do a few MPH over 70MPH in Norfolk allegedly, and get a darn NIP

I meant 1.9 D's not Tdi's or TDci's or CDTi's, just plain old 1.9 D's

This is really begining to worry me.

So say Im doing 70 and I get a NIP that states I was doing 120MPH on a certain date.

I'm stuffed because my car is capable of doing 140MPH so I cant get a nice ex policeman to test my car at bruntingthorpe and prove I wasnt capable of it.
I just have to take the points the fine and possibly a ban. I would then lose my job and I would struggle to keep my children in the fasion in which they are acustomed.

Obviosly the equipment isnt up to the job. How many innocent people have suffered because of this?

the other question would be that if it can get it wrong to that extent, how many people are being done for 44 in a 40 when they were actually doing 35 etc...

At least with Gatsos you could coorberate the evidence with the painted lines on the road!

This is why Gatso's are NOT being propagated in Germany,
they're SEVERLY innacurate in
rain,
on roads where vibration affects the camera (lorries doing 17kph in a jam flashed at 160kph!)
in fog/mist (radar reflections fron precipitation)

Thats why they're chopping them down and using lasers more...
if in doubt... fight it!!!!!!!

GErman Authorities reckon 35000 questionable "blitzes" in Germany per Annum!!!!!

Surely if the diesel is fitted with a rev limiter it will "hit a wall" at peak revs in top anyway even if it's running downhill.

The Ford 1.8 turbo diesel certainly does. P100 turbo diesel tops out at 92.5mph irrespective of gradient (down, that is).
