I'm working in SF for a fortnight with a US bank holiday in the middle - an trying to find something to do over that middle weekend.

Does anyone have any hints for where to stay in the Tahoe area for a long weekend skiing? I'll only be there for a few days, so not too bothered about trying all the ski areas. Somewhere that'd be good for a beginner-to- intermediate boarder/skier would be perfect.

Went to Heavenly some years ago, sounds about the right level of skiing, stunning views of the lake and desert at the top, plenty accommodation choices, and good choice of nightlife on the Nevada side.

Kind of depends how you're getting to Tahoe.

Only Heavenly is actually in Tahoe, the others like Squaw, Alpine Meadows, Kirkwood, North Star etc are all a drive arround the lake so you need a car or take a bus.....

Heavenly is good - depending on the snow as it can be warm - but my favourite's are Apline Meadows and Kirkwood.

Stay in any of the motels or casino's near the stateline - plenty of nightlife in Tahoe and Irish pubs.

If you had the chance I would reccomend Mammoth - but its a bit a trek to get there!

I once did this....from Germany. Jetlag was a killer but skiing was ace, just book a motel in town and away you go.

We stayed at the Inn By the Lake in SLT. Free bus, you couldn't/wouldn't like to walk it with all your gear. The big casinos are all very close to the Heavenly Gondola. Lots of differennt areas close by if you have a car Squaw IMO has the most interesting terrain.

Decent drive up from SF, I got done for speeding.....
