Just What Price was it for a New S series?

Tried all the threads and even google but no sign of a New Price Guide for the S.
Just interested to compare with its contemporaries, then and now, how has it held up after all these years.
Apologies if someone has already posted this, I could not find anything.

has been done before and i think it comes in if buying today (well last year) they would be about £34k ish if memory serves.

my original invoice is at home and again from memory i think it was around £18/19K new in 1991.

I've got the original invoice for my V8S :

Basic Price : 19,162.24
Car Tax : 1,643.32
Delivery : 255.31
Number plates : 21.27

Options ( Mica paint, tinted glass, wilton carpets, alarm ) : 340

Total : 21,422.14
VAT : 3,748.87

Total incl VAT : 25,171.01

That was in 1991. It was part exchanged for an S2 (reg G31 ALD) which he was given 16,595 for.

So, in 1991 a V8S was 25K or 9K to upgrade from an S2 !

My S3 was a list price of £14152, and had over a grand of options aded (although strangely not leather) so by time tax and vat was added it was £19,435 in April 91

Have a look at www.tvrsseries.com where there is a link to some original TVR press releases. The original price was £12995.00!!

At the risk of staying off topic.
Went to see Tony Gilbert last year when looking at a Griff. Although his car was not the one for me, he came across as a very nice chap who does not sell rubbish. Even offered me a good price for my old S if I was to trade it in which I was not expecting.
If I was in the market for another TVR I would have no hesitation in going to see him again. Not seen this S but may be worth a look.

Bought my first S new in August 1990 Red with non-leather grey interior. Paid Full list price from The Sports Car Centre in Pershore Worcs. £16,999
Main memory then was every time I parked it where I lived (in the centre of Hereford) , on my return to the car a small crowd had gathered around the car to look at it ! Kept having to say excuse me before i drove off ! Quite funny at the time. As i was also 29 & single the car was a lot of fun

May 1990 my S3 (vinyl trim) totalled at £17,545 which included £35 for side decals and £350 for S3C bonnet (driving lamps).

It was purchased by the Michael Bowyers Group so guess it started life as a company car?

Also have letters from TVR Blackpool thanking the purchaser for his initial enquiry and subsequently thanking him for the purchase. Nice touch and lucky to have such original paperwork with the car.

Also just found original UK price list for July 1991 and March 1992, along with several original S specification brochures, approved warranty programme.

Original invoice for my S3c dated June 1990 including accessories (electric aerial, wooden Momo steering wheel and gear knob) and £13.03 worth of fuel came to the grand total of £20078.

Basic: 15,388.31
Car Tax: 1346.48
Delivery: 347.83
Accessories: 276.53
Fuel: 13.03
VAT: 2605.82

TOTAL: 19978.00 +100 road fund tax, INVOICE for £20078

Looking at other posts it does seem as though pricing varied massively!

says "fit at TVR Centre", perhaps the dealer picked up the cost, not the factory?

I paid £13250 for my S1, as it was a cancelled Customer Order . The problem in those days( Early 1989) there wasn't a lot to choose from . I could have bought a Red with Grey Interior 'S' all day. If you wanted something different you paid the price. Funny enough the Dealer at the time offered me a new 'S' with the then new 2.9 EFI for £15500 all in . Saw them both come off the Transporter at the time, both Solid colours with Magnolia half Hide. Happy Days
