Hey all, thinking it's time for a change of wheels and just wondered if there are any PHers out there with recent experience of comparing dealer/trader trade in values against WBAC?

Last time I looked online a few weeks ago WBAC were valuing my car (2001 Audi s3 with 75k) at around £2500 but I did get a text alert recently to say it had gone up. I am interested in going to look at a mini Cooper s at a local trader advertised at £3995 so just wondering what I might expect to part exchange.

I would have thought they would be pretty similar.

Difference is once you get to WBAC they may try to knock the price down if they think you've mis described the condition.
At least with part ex they see the car and give a valuation as is.

I think generally what they offer is what you could expect to get as a trade in. Afterall, WBAC are basically buying your car to sell on, much like a trader is, whether they put it to auction or sell through a car supermarket, they want to make a decent profit. As above though, they will haggle on the price they've offered, and dont forget the £50 admin fee too.

Best thing is to get a quote and ask a few dealers it's P/X value. Only way you will get it's true value is to do the leg work and sell it privately.

VW gave me a value (before scrapage scheme), of 900 for my excellent condition VR6.

WBAC, gave me 350.

This was a while back though.

WBAC are buying to move on into the trade thus less than trade.

They bid a customer of mine 3225 on a car worth 3700 trade.

Thanks mate - that says between £2200 and £2925 - WBAC valuation of mine was around the middle but I assume upon inspection they would knock it down to nearer the bottom figure so that seems a decent little tool.

Just for interest I was at an auction today - I put the details of a 118d into wbac and it came back with £10900 and wewillbuyyourcar £10,100 - the car made £10,400 at auction which was roughly 400 behind book.

WBAC gave me £11900 for my Focus ST against a trade in value of £10500 by two dealers. Not bad after buying it New for just under £17k two years earlier smile

Apparently the price all depends on what cars they have purchased, how many they have, demand, etc.

From my experience its mid-low p/x value. Some dealers will offer even less, but most will offer more, especially as they have margin to play with on whatever they are selling.

I got more for my Focus through WBAC than I was offered in PX by a main Mazda dealer.

WBAC is owned by the same company that own Carcraft so you know excatly where they are going.
If its the right car for them, right condition, long MOT etc.. than they will be competetive.

Not trying to slate anyone here, but why do people use WBAC? I would say these type of companies are very last resort / desperate measures to sell your car hence the low value offered, and even worse when they inspect it.

Who wants pay day loan then?

Its nothing like a payday loan. In fact the exact opposite. Its for people who want to sell thier car but cant be arse with the hassle of it.

The way I see it, you pay for convenience. You get shot of the car there and then and the money goes directly into your account. No need to advertise, no waiting for the phone to ring, no sifting out the spam from the genuine queries, no messing around with test pilots and time wasters, no bouncing cheques or Paypal scams, no comeback from the buyer, all paperwork properly completed in front of you. That convenience carries value for some people. Hence they use them, and effectively pay for it through getting a lower offer.

Everyone will make their own assessment of whether it is worth it for them. I have personally found it is worth it on occasions.

Not me, but then I don't need one.

"Desperate" and "last resort" solutions are not automatically wrong. They exist for a reason. The world needs them.

yes I've seen them offer decent private sale rates to some people, and half of trade-in value to others. It just depends on how they see the resale market for the car in question at the time.

I just traded in two cars and got £2700 more for them than WBAC offered.

That's a fair bit and nearly half of the value I got for both cars on trade in!

I also didn't put any money to the deal; it was a straight swap for the same value and my purchase wasn't over inflated on price.
