It's 5 minutes of your life you'll never get back, but wondered what you all thought of a little video I made:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qq1LTPi_Cfo&hd...

It's a shame Youtube's compression is so agressive a lot of the quality has gone but you'll get the idea.

Shot with a motorsports edition HD2, the suction mount is very impressive it hasn't fallen off yet! My only gripe is the poor audio - I've read about drilling a hole in the shell so you can plug an external mic in but obviously then it won't be waterproof - is it really worth having to buy an extra shell so you can drill holes in one?!

I got one for Christmas too, bloody superb bit of kit.
I shoot in 1080-25-wide-PAL all of mine shows at 1080p on youtube...what editing software did you run it through?

I've tried mounting in different places (on the S4) with some great results...although I always tether it or at least run across the base with ducktape to be sure.

Can't wait to try it on horseback biggrin

Be careful with the mount.

My HD2 lasted a week before it parted company never to be seen again frown
That's what I've been dreading to be honest. Sorry for your loss, did you get it replaced? I was thinking of tying fishing line to it in case it did lose grip it wouldn't mean total loss..?

You can buy a skeleton housing which gives you access to all the ports and better sound quality.

It was shot in 1280x960p wide (which is HD 4:3 apparently - 1280x1080p is 16:9) as that was the default setting and I started off with only a 8Gb card (now has a 32Gb).

I used Sony Vegas 8, it's the only editor I could find that would run on my 6 year old PC! (Dual core and I had to add an extra 1Gb memory to take it to 3Gb just to get it to run pretty much satisfactory).

Post your horseback vids when you shoot some - helmet or horse mounted? smile

Ahh cheers I didn't know that - bit expensive but probably worth it!

I use Windows Movie maker, nice and easy with decent features...will that run on your system? it's not very demanding.

I'm going to try it mounted on the riding hat and probably on a chest harness too (facing front and back) possible have it slung down on the girth looking forward between horsey's front legs too if I feel brave with it.....don't think the suction cup with stick to the big hairy beasts wink

Nope - I lost it on a very short journey through the village where I live and I realised as soon as I parked up at home. I retraced my steps almost immediately but it was gone. Not many honest people around unfortunately.

GoPro didnt want to know.

An expensive mistake frown
Sounds like you did not mount it correctly, i think those mounts are rated at 150mph or something.

Thanks for that link busta, was looking for somewhere that prices GoPro accessories honestly.

lucky guy getting that from Santa!..
nice little first vid!.. despite youtube doing their best to kill the quality its still excellent.
looking to pick up a GoPro black, had my eye on GoPros for ages and going to take the plunge soon smile

good tips (fishing line) with securing the gopro though.. didnt think they really fell off but better safe than sorry i suppose.. though i dont know if id be more annoyed by losing a GoPro.. or have it swing off and dent/scratch a door or something! mind a dent is probably the cheaper option..

Id been using it for a week with zero problems, and for a few hours that day beofre it disappeared in to the ether.

Cant prove it one way or another, but was pissed off to say the least. At the end of the day it was mounted on a flat metal surface, theres not too much to do incorrectly!

I was also less than impressed with the quality of the mounts in general - the screw on components were very poorly made / thought out IMO.

I loved the quality of the camera though.
Back luck Alex and tbh you are not the first I've heard loose "Suction" on the mount..hence i always tether mine. frown

Also while griping I don't like that the little nut falls out when you take the thumb screw out!!!
How hard would that have been to have made it a captive nut? not very as i've done it myself now!

Not a problem.

Some of my very random selection of GoPro videos here if anyone's interested. (most shot on a go-pro, some on my phone though) http://www.youtube.com/user/thebubaloomonkey

I love the time lapse feature; it makes boring things interesting and saves having hours of footage.

Have not played with the time lapse feature yet.

I'm going skiing next week and fancy doing a timelapse of parts of the journey down there by car.

What intervals are you shooting, for instance on the hilarious digger film?

I also got a GoPro for Xmas, I've already posted this in the Photo & Video section Helmet/Bulletcam thread, but may as well post it here too:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCuZS9tizoo

This was using the time lapse feature, taking an image every second, the images were cropped to 16:9 ratio in Lightroom and stitched to a timelapse in GoPro CineForm studio. Not the most interesting of films, just driving to the pub, but I wanted to try out the GoPro, it was mounted to the inside of the windscreen. I've not got some Mummut 2mm hammer cord for tethering it outside of the car (one thread on here recommended paracord, but that is too thick on the Hero 3 case).

A good rule of thumb that I've picked up is that if you're taking a picture every 2 seconds 1 hour of driving will end up as 1 minute of video.

Thankyou very much, that's exactly the sort of info I was after, the video is perfect.

Some of that was 1 second, some 2 seconds, then played back at 30fps. I set the camera to 5mp for timelapse just to make the files easier to handle. Even a 5mp photo has a massive resolution compared to video.

The GoPro saves time-lapse footage as folders full of individual photos. I use Time Lapse Assembler and iMovie to put it all together (on a mac).

here is one I did on a GoPro Hero 2 using 720p which I think gives the best results for the web

http://vimeo.com/54702290

The key with the mount is to clean the suface before fixing it every time. Mine hasn't come off even at very high speeds.

Errr I'm guessing you didn't watch that "don't blame Facebook" tv program last night, where various people post up videos of themselves on YouTube & book face & promptly get a knock on the door from the bib.

Hint, overtaking on double white lines into oncoming traffic & a 30 zone nono

Nice footage though, I think I'll have to get one smile
