So i am thinking about changing from my current car to something new. My requirements are -

Preferably a hatch (have not had one for a while and like the visibiliy out of them vs coupes... yes thats not a very manly admission).

Has to be comfortable over bumpy road surfaces (my E46 M3 is far better than many cars i have owned, but still tracks and crashes over bumps more than my gf's Corsa).

Has to be something that should typically exhibit as few rattles as possible (obviously this varies form car to car, but something with good pedigree in this regard, again combined with somewhat softer suspension should help).

Needs to be spritely but not necessarily a missile on the road. I am tired of having cars that i can never fully exploit and so something that i can (almost) legally "rev out" would be refreshing. I would like something that permits brisk effortless overtaking for those situations when someone is doing 50mph on a NSL road. I only do about 4K miles a year so a diesel is not warranted for the torque.

Fuel economy not important.

Insurance group not important.

Number of seats and doors not important.

Would like a manual box.

I dont want something that is associated with mind blowing potential repair bills.

I'm not really a badge snob. No subarus or evos though - been there done that.

I already have an Mx5 as a track car.

I am looking to spend between 7-10K. Possibly a bit more if necessary.

So there we go, i have tried to be as informative as possible. Your thought appreciated smile

Urm so you're wanting an average hatch thats superfast for overtakes but slow enough to rev out?

Not sure such a car exists and hatches really aren't my thing. I like the MINI so would cite them, but I know they don't ride very well. The Volvo looks pretty good too, but they market it as a coupe and while I don't really understand the "visibility" issue you have with coupes I suspect these would be a no.

Brera looks great, but may fail on rattles or visibility. How about another saloon such as the RX-8 R3?
