minor collision advice?
Discussion
A little advice required regarding a very low speed collision.
Reversing out of a parking spot in my Transit Connect. Elderly gent in a bay directly opposite in his Qashquai reversed out too (I hasten to add when I commenced my manueovre, he was stationary). Saw him appear in my passenger side window, stopped and sounded my horn but to no avail. Now a large dent to the quarter panel of my van, and a scratch to his rear bumper. Of course he bounces out the old 50/50 line. I said the damage is clearly not 50/50.
To cut a long story short, we did not exchange details, as things got heated and I was late for work. With no witnesses, I had to report to insurers. I had his vehicle reg so all details where gained from this. Still angers me that he felt his defence was that the area was private property and that I had no right to be there!
A repair quote of £2600 exceeds the cost of the vehicle so I am now chasing a PAV of £1500 from the third parties insurers. The vehicle is obviously driveable.
Three months later (with the third party delaying his response to his insurers request for info) They offered 50% of the £1500 which my insurers rejected. I believe the next step is a solicitors letter.
Has anyone found themselves in similar circumstances? If so, is there anything I need to do to push this on?
Or am I at the mercy of the companies involved?
Thanks in advance.
