I was expecting to wait till the end of 2013 but rumours are now rife that it could be as early as June 11th smile

It will probably be announced then but won't be available to buy until late 2013 I'd have thought

Not convinced however, Sony and MS will be trying to get the jump on each other. MS missed out of decent hardware last time because of an earlier release but it didn't seem to hurt them too much.

Hmmmm, built in Kinect would be rubbish as currently mounted above TV and can't stick an Xbox up there?

No HD and downloadable games also rubbish, especially as the cloud went down the other day and I couldn't access any of my game saves frown No more trade ins, etc....

What Rob has said about hardware is confusing as well? Xbox and PS3 were both completed around the same time, MS released and bit the bullet with the problems they had, Sony waited till they had sorted their problems and then released. PS3 got released later, not created later?

That is how MS has managed to get the jump on Sony.

BLue Ray laser failed a lot and the drive also lasted "1 to 3 years with average use".

The blue ray laser failing was actually more common until RROD defects fully kicked in.

Nah, can't see it. That would mean there are 15-20 next gen games in development right now, almost completed in fact, certainly in the 'beta stage' without a single leak, doesn't seem likely.

The disc drive is a huge problem for them, but I can't see them doing without it, I guess they'll swallow their pride and go for a Bluray drive, but I guess they could equally carry on with multiple DVD's, or even resurrect the HD DVD technology they had as an add-one for the 360, but I can't see them going disc free on this release, they want to sell these things in pretty much every country in the world, bloody hell the last game I downloaded was 'Dead Nation' after the whole PSN debacle and with my stty 4meg connection it took 12 hours, for a pretty basic game - I guess I'd be looking at days for a next gen game, lord knows how that would work in the developing world.

I agree its a nice concept to go disc less but i'd suspect they would make less money overall so there will probably be a blu ray drive i thnk.

Microsoft have designed windows 8/metro from wp7 and the xbox dashboard not the other way.
720 will just be more of the same.

Bigger/faster cpu/graphics/ram, to do 1080 in 3d properly or even 4k.
Still physical disk and hard drive.
Kinect mkII.

Its a wonder why the next GTA isnt targeted as a launch game on a new platform.

Removing the disc drive will ps off a hell of a lot of people. Completely rules out taking a game over to a mates house, prevents trade ins and rapes the few remaining gaming stores.
