Not my sphere of expertise, but I said I'd help find a suitable sub to add to a Denon stereo system which is equipped with a low level mono subwoofer output. Doesn't need to be especially powerful, maybe £250 budget or so, though the cheaper the better. It'll be used equally for TV and music, so a good all-rounder would be appreciated.

Plenty of choice here http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m57... at well under your budget, including some big names.

great subs for the money - lots of reviews on avforums. I've got the xls - highly recommend.

I have one of these but have now moved it to my Sonos system and added a X300 for my surround sound.

Another vote for the BK Gemini - a proper sub with real grunt

+1.

I have an XLS, and it's excellent - BKs are a real bargain.

I'd already heard good things about these, probably overkill for this application but will suggest one anyway. Otherwise it'll be a cheaper Cambridge Audio or Tannoy one (unless there's any reason not to?)

I have an XLS200 in my conservatory and a Monolith in my main set up. Highly recommended IMHO. Never heard the Gemini, but I'd put money on it that it would out do the subs sold by RS.

There was a rumour that BK were the OEM for REL. In any case may of the designs are suspiciously similar, but as you buy direct from BK they work out much cheaper for the same size. wink

Awesome subs, subtle and tuneable (my Gemini II has music and movie filters) too so you don't need to worry about it being overbearing.

Alternatively, try avforums for secondhand gear:-

Wharfedale sw150 is a good piece of kit for the cash (£170). It's an old sub released in 2003/4 but for the cash nothing comes near. Look it up it has 5star reviews everywhere.

Superfi have them exclusively and do a great package with a pair of diamond 9.1 speakers for £230. (Speakers are normally >£100)

another xls200 user.

I setup a gemini for my cousin's system, and can confirm that it sounds awesome. In fact my XL200 is a bit overkill for my small room, but hey ho!

Another happy owner of the XLS200 since getting several recommendation on here - Crisp and flexible enough on music with just enough thump for movie effects

I'm thinking of moving my XLS200 back into the living room...to use as a second sub to help fill a 'null' that I have in my room. evil I'm already using a Monolith DF as the main sub, but the little '200 did a pretty good job on it's own before I got the Monolith in a 6.5 metre by 4 metre room.
