Its come that time of year to put the car away for a couple of months before winter bites properly.

Quick clean before the cover went on, ready for awakening march april time. Also on a ctek charger, few jobs to do if the weather is nice whilst away, like fitting my HIDS and valve clearences before a remap for the short induction.

Roll on getting my own place and a garage, only a year to go for the all important deposit.

Very shiny! That's a nice cover too.

Can I ask how you've found the torque curve on the short induction compared to standard (with realisation that it's not been remapped yet)?

The one I've bought has replacement hoses but they're the ACT long hoses - the seller saying he didn't like the power delivery on a short induction car he had a go in. To be honest, this one will be plenty powerful for me for the time being but I do wonder whether the top end BHP improvements cost much from the bottom end. I really liked the relative grunt the engine had at low-moderate RPMs and I don't think I'd want to lose that for a top end I'd rare get a chance to use, if you see where I'm coming from?

i've only driven the car twice since fitting the short induction. but did feel nicer to drive around town and in traffic, power wise felt like it pulled better but again haven't driven it enough to see the difference. the car had 379bhp the last time on a rolling road so will be interesting to see when i have it remapped and to see the difference, but that will be in a few months.

The car always feels silly fast when ever i have driven after getting out of my auto grand cherokee

Please don't. Nothing worse for an engine than cold starts and then not getting fully up to temp.

Also, if possible get the wheels off the ground or at least move the car onto different areas of the tyres every few weeks.

yeah i will be running the engine, and will run it up to temp and let it idle for a while, has a full tank of full for that very reason.

Whilst i know why the car should be moved to stop flat spots on the tyres i haven't had any issues in the past with having the car sat in the same position for periods of time,

But as i have some jobs to do that require the wheels to be taken off i can rotate them at the same time, and to stop the brakes sticking on which seems to be a thing with my front brakes when not used.

I wouldn't.. Idle is lowest oil pressure. Car needs to be run properly to get up to temp and clear itself out. Can't really be recreated on the drive!

whilst i was going my front end last year the engine wasn't run for 3-4 months and was fine and still is running good, do feel that not running it shouldn't do any harm, running it sat on the drive sounds like it will do more harm than good.

Anyone do anything special before restarting the engine after a 3 or 4 month layup?

No.... I just check all the fluids are at the correct level, fire it up, check for leaks and take it for a good long drive. Till all component s are nice and hot.

I turn it over for 15 secs with the low tension lead off the coil to get the oil flowing.

Does anyone bother to pull the spark plugs and replace with silica plugs? That's what you do with aircraft engines to inhibit them and prevent corrosion on the valves and bores from moisture entering via open valves which see atmosphere.

Nope, mine just lives in a dehumidified garage.
