The article says it's easiest to plea bargain - admit guilt for a reasonable sentence than try to stand up to it.

Would pleading guilty when you're not, be liable to a charge of Peverting course of Justice in UK?

No. Plea bargaining usually involves pleading guilty to either the charged offence, or a lesser version of the offence, to secure a lesser sentence. We don't have it in the UK, but there's 1/3 off for an early plea, and the CPS will sometimes have a "quiet word" when there's a possibility of copping a plea for a lesser charge.
